Rant: How does moderator integrity reflect on beyond.ca?

Long story short: I sold some wheels in the marketplace here on beyond about a year ago and it was convenient to let a moderator to collect the money on my behalf. I didn't give it much thought because I assumed the moderators on a reputable site like beyond would live up to certain minimum standards.

I've been trying to square up with said moderator ever since. Several times we have agreed on a time and place to meet and I show up only to find that the moderator is a no show. Common courtesy would be to let a person know so that they don't take time out of their day for nothing. This never happens though. Excuses and apologies are made every time about why they couldn't make it (I have a lot of PM history to back this all up). It's been a vicious cycle for the last 12 months.

Lately I'm getting the feeling that this moderator is ducking me. It's getting pretty frustrating - I can't get through via phone anymore (even after I leave messages or let them know in advance when to be expecting my call) and I don't get replies to my PMs anymore even though I can see that they post regularly on Beyond.

I'm trying to approach this situation with some tact and I'm not going to name names right away. But I don't want to let something like this slide and then watch it happen to someone else.

IMO why did you let someone else collect the money for your sale... i mean... it just doesnt seem like the best decision to me.

that said... yeah the moderator is probably trying to avoid you in the hopes that youll give up and hell have some spending money... but meh... its probably your mistake in the first place.

Your mistake is right here.

I doubt that Kenny or rage2 ever meet any of the users before they become mods. Some of the mods don't even live in Calgary.

That's pretty harsh man. I had the same thing happen to me when I sold my brand new camera to my brother's friend. I got the camera as a gift and I already had another good camera so I figured I just make some money off it and be able to use the cash.

He came over one day at my house to check out the camera. He didn't really have enough money to pay the whole thing out so I told him to give me whatever he can at that time and pay the rest later. Oh the guy I'm talking about was in his early 20's when this happened so I wasn't dealing with some teenager. The guy was one of my brother's good friend so I figured he wouldn't fuck me over with the rest of the money. Well he did and to this day he technically still owes me $300. It's been years so I don't even bother.

Hopefully this doesn't happen to you though, sounds like a lot of money is involved in this one.

Is this mod a friend of yours or a mutal acquaintance?

If he's just an acquaintance, it probably wasn't the best idea to trust someone you don't know well. But having said that, regardless of whether they are a mod or not, he shouldn't be ducking you.

Just to clear some things up, this happened in a retail environment. The money was never supposed to go into said moderator's pocket but directly towards a purchase.

I met him as an acquaintance and he's a pretty good guy. I have faith that he'll come through but I figured a little push might make it happen sooner rather than later.

Getting stuck in traffic on Glenmore on Wednesday because of the lane closures was what pissed me off enough to start this thread. I wasted a couple hours out of my day (pretty much my entire evening) and have nothing to show for it.

Hey ottamania, what you think lets put some resource together and start a collection agency for beyond? One dude got jacked on a camera deal and other on wheels and that’s just from one thread how many more out there. Collect for them at a fee of 45% because as it sits you have nothing, better to pocket something then nothing.

I don't think anyone has a better reputation for honesty on this site than you Richard so it's not like anyone thinks you are even possibly lying/misrepresenting.

If enough mods come on to "+1" the naming of the person, the choice will become obvious soon enough.
