Default Starting my credit, what's a good credit card?

    Hey guys,

Most of you or all of you currently have credit cards.

I'm a student with a monthly income of $1300 income.

Don't gotta pay rent or anything like that just sometimes gotta buy food here and there.

I was wondering what's the best credit card to get? and if I don't get approved should I re-apply and maybe increase my monthly income (basically lying...)

I just need a credit card to buy things here and there, and I have no problem paying for stuff especially if the limit is $500 - $1000...

Any advice or anything is appreciated!

And what's your guys opinion on the Citi Group Petro-point Mastercard?? No annual fee!! Just I don't know what the limit is? I want to buy a laptop... but it's going to be hard.. but I guess that can wait.

    Thanks,
    Steve

Do not re-apply... Everytime you apply and u get turned down, it lowers ur credit points. Just get one of those "secured credit cards" most of the bank has it (TD for sure) all u have to do is come up with a deposit (500-1000) and they will give u one right away with the credit limit of whichever u've deposited. This will highly increase ur credit ratings. Of course pay it on time and u will get ur deposit back within a year or two.

If your a student you should be able to a low-limit credit card pretty easy with whatever bank you have been banking with.

you can also try scotia visa.

when i started building my credit, i've been banking with TD for years with good record and they still turn me down when i applied for a credit card. then i tried BMO and they gave me 1 right away with a very good interest rate compared to TD visa.

i used to get rejected lots back then.. i didn't know it hurted my credit rating..

but when i got into sait.. i heard it was pretty easy to get a Student credit card.. so i applied 1 more time.. and they send me one.. LOL but from then on.. i baught tons of shit and did monthly payments.. and now i'm pretty sure my credit rating's good now.. LOL TD and Master Card sent me pre approuved credit cards and all i had to do is call them and activate my cards..

Your credit limit is based on your credit score. The easiest way to get a c.c. is (as said) a secured one, where you front up $500 or so, and they give you the card, then when you have some good credit established (a year or so down the road, with no snafu's), you can get the $500 back.

Why does the limit matter???? If your bringing home 1300 a month and you've been rejected twice for a basic td visa your sure as hell not going to get offered some huge credit limit anyway.

Hmm alright, cause Capitalone always sends me shit to get credit cards, and I've always thrown those out cause I don't believe in credit cards but now that I can see why they come in handy it's great! I'll just use it for gas, and small purchases but still interest shouldn't kill me if I make more than a 75% payment on something large.

Just because they send you the stuff in the mail though, doesn't mean they'll approve you. They're assholes like that.

I think I'm going with the Petro Canada Personal Creditcard provided by citigroup.

I can save 2 cents a litre, and minimum $500 and interest is high like 19.9% but that's okay I just have to make my payments on time right.

Mastercard from one of the major banks(can't remember right now) has a airmiles card that can be used with westjet...1400 airmiles will take you anywhere in canada...you might consider that!
If you make all your purchase with the card and being careful to pay it off at the due date you will not incur any interest...

Pretty sure your're talking about the BMO Mosaik. I hear now it has the SPC attached to it as well, sounds pretty sweet! I would get this too but I don't have any need for another cc

You should never keep anything on your credit card, always pay it off in full.

If you can only put a "75% downpayment" on a large purchase that means you're buying it one paycheque early. Wait until you can pay it before you put it on credit.
