I was just at Sumo on Tuesday for some all you can eat... and it didn't have sashimi. Where did you hear this? And when did it start?
It's too bad that we'll never compare to Vancouver for sushi... I was there a couple of weeks ago and had some phenomenal all you can eat sushi at Shabusen... $13 and it had tuna/salmon sashimi that puts almost any place in Calgary to shame.
nothing trumps japan, shitt miss it went there this summer sushi there is amazaing
Which one? I went to granville location back in july and it was nasty. Usually it's pretty decent though, so maybe just a bad night.Originally posted by Super_Geo

Just back from that restaurant : SUMO @ 10th Ave(Below Japanese Village ). so FULL~~
...
it is my first time been there. in fact, it is nice restaurant. much better than other Jap restaurants in town, it has loung, sushi bar. it is a HUGE restaurant.
comfortable seatting , the server always smile ( only 2 tonight , mine one is so kind to us )
the Sashimi AUCE is GOOD !!! damn...I never eat this much sashimi in my life and only paying 26.99....HAHHA...LUCKY ME .
the fish is fresh...and the FOOD IS FAST...sushi is faster...I guess all the ppl just eat sashimi....haha.
The sashimi is based on Salmon/ Tuna.
they have normal one ,Seard/Tataki style , spicy style and Korean style ......the spicy and seared is GOOD !!!!
26.99 , I think is worth...since there are so much AUCE restaurant charging around 25 per head with BIG RICE and SMALL FISH, such as BBQ Inn @ 16ave, Chinook Ginza , Sushi Tokyo .....~~~damn...can't forgive them
had words with our server, haha..also got her name ...Miyuki~~I guess....she said ..this SUMO is a new one ...and they didn't do any ADS...BUSY LUNCH for them...night time is alright ....and they just started the Sashimi ALL YOU CAN EAT like...weeks ago ...guys u shall try it ..
BUT , they don't take any reservation , First come first serve....tat is sad.........when I got there @ 5 :30..half full already....
one bad things.....the server told me ,THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEM WITH RENEWING LIQUOR LICENCE NOW, SO NO BEERS >_<
overall, I would go and try again for sure~~

sorry for da BIG ads~~
Yeah, I was just there 2 weeks ago as well, I can't even think about going to sushi in Calgary for another month, until my brain forgets how much better it is over there. Strange since all the fish is flash frozen anyways, it shouldn't make a difference... but it doesOriginally posted by Super_Geo

Maybe my intuition is off but something about all you can eat raw fish just seems to be asking for trouble.

Time to pull this quote out of the internet.
This is a true case of a japanese man from Gifu Prefecture who complains incessantly about a persistent headache. Mr. Shota Fujiwara loves his sashimi and sushi very much to the extent of trying to get them as "alive and fresh" as can be for his insatiable appetite.
He developes a severe headache for the past 3 years and has put it off as migraine and stress from work. It was only when he started losing his psycomotor skills that he seeks medical help. A brain scan and x-ray reveals little however. But upon closer inspection by a specialist on his scalp, the doctor noticed small movements beneath his skin. It was then that the doctor did a local anaesthetic to his scalp and discovered the cause when tiny worms crawled out. A major surgery was thus immediately called for and the extent of the infestation was horrific. See the attached pictures to the scene that one thought only a movie could produced.:
Remember, tapeworms and roundworms and their eggs which abounds in all fishes fresh or saltwater can only be killed by thorough cooking and/or freezing the fish to between 4 degC - 0 degsC. The eggs of these parasites can only be killed if it is cooked or frozen to the said temperatures for a week or more. Think twice about that raw dish next time... or you might get a headache.

^ sweet, why not post the pics of the worms?
