Hey all,

I just moved to Edmonton for school and I'm already sick of the same shit here. Didn't take long either. Where are some decent places to hit up BESIDES the mainstream places. I hate country for starters.

Places I know of:

Ranch, OCR, Iron Horse, Hudson's on Whyte and Jasp, Touch, The Bank.

I like house music but will settle for somewhere with lots of people around and decent music. No country for the love of god.

The globe is pretty good and ive never tried it but ive heard good things about Empire, the "new" Rum n Jungle. If you head to empire tell me how it goes. If your looking for food, im headin to The King and I tmrw, so ill tell ya if its any good.

Edit: Not sure what you consider main stream so if you consider those 2 main stream, iunno then.

I've been to the King and I in Calgary before. It's good food. I heard decent things about Empire
but have been yet to try it out. Maybe that'll be my Saturday destination... now to round up some
people lol.

Try the Metro (near Grant Mac) or Squires (Whyte Ave) for good pool

If you're looking for the Indie scene, try the Starlite Room (102 street and 100 ave I think). There's always the Velvet Underground if you're looking for some house/trance.

Every Wednesday night Chris Wynters from Captain Tractor plays an unplugged set at O'Byrne's on Whyte, which is good stuff. He brings a different guest every week.

It's part of Starlite...they still have some house stuff but it seems to have drifted a little more towards hip hop as of late.

Its a bit older crowd. but usually a blast.

Billard CLub on whyte is good. The attic is pretty fun on wed for 1.50 drinks.

Black Dog, it's like the Ship but with a sweet roof top patio and they spin tunes in the basement, can't remember what on what night though.

Ivory Club is wicked been there. Lots of sweet scenery too.
Never been to Black Dog might check that out too.

As per the advice above, I think I may hit The Bank on Friday and maybe this Velvet on Saturday.

Black Dog sounds like it'd be a good place for a football match or hockey game.

Black Dog's pretty decent. So is O'Byrnes.
Pretty much anywhere on Whyte is pretty safe. I've checked out a couple bands at the starlite room and its not bad.

thirsty turtle - good place to hang out in the summer, the garage doors/balcony are open and its a happenin place

Haha, your not into the bar scene anymore because you don't have like 8 hot HK girls grinding up on you like with your name-dropping friend. I feel ya.

On another note, Halo's mod night is alright. It is a really cool bar, they have a really nice setup, nice lighting. I'm not crazy into the mod stuff though, but its pretty chill in there.

Black dog is pretty good too.

Iron Horse is a good club for mainstream music. Dance floor fucking sucks. You come out sweating. And it isn't your own sweat.

And although it is country, the Ranch is the shit. Learn to fucking two step and you will thank yourself for it. The broads there are unreal and it's a sick ratio.
