DOES ANYONE NEED A GO-JUICE?
Not everyone who's an engineer is a douchebag... I don't see how a comment like that makes you any better than the engineers you're bitching about. Thanks for coming out though.Originally posted by HillBilly
The only people who respect engineers, are engineers. The rest of the world think you are a bunch of fucking retards with calculators.
Anytime I recieve a job from a P.Eng, I get my colouring books out so I can easily explain concepts to him/her.
But with an attitude like that... let me guess... you're a drafter?
For the most part, I would have to agree. Most engineers I have met have a rather large superiority complex. Some of them are just down right condescending, thinking they are "better" than everyone else. There are, however, exceptions, but like BMW drivers, most are douches.Originally posted by HillBilly
So lets re-name the thread to "who on beyond is a fucking idiot"

As is the way with beyond... more like the young and the restless but soap opera no lessOriginally posted by Mr.Buffy
I don't know how a simple thread with a yes/no answer gets so out of control.
Everyone is more into other people and their business than their own lives. It's like a chinese soap opera in here.

^That's a simple answer Mr. Buffy, it's beyond.ca
but.. my point was that this was a simple thread, then some engineer had to pounce on another guy because he was a tech who was apparently calling himself an "engineer" which, I guess, is a big no-no in the engineering community.
I'm just glad there are exceptions to the douche rule... haha

Electrical Engineer (E.I.T.) need another 4-6 months to apply for P.Eng.
I haven't met to many Eng Techs that call themselves Engineers. Same goes for my industry - I am an Architectural Tech but by no means do I call myself an Architect.
if its anything like my industry the Engineer comes up with the idea and the tech does all the work.
Custodial Engineer, long time member of the IJCSA.
Somewhat of an interesting read:

A janitor becomes a custodial engineer and theoretically feels better about cleaning up garbage at the same old pay rate.
well ,lets stop e flaming here. anyone here doing electrical/ infocomm/ working with telecomm ppl here?
how much on average does a fresh grad engineer get?
Same right back at ya... you posted in a thread for engineers and you aren't one yet.Originally posted by boredengineer
Why do we have all these sait/devry people claiming to be engineers? Learn to read your degree it says TECHNOLOGY/IST... Unless you have a BsC in Engineering this thread does not apply to you. And a fake BsC from devry doesn't qualify either.
EE here two years from P.Eng
There ya go.Originally posted by kaishen

This thread shoulda been called:
"calling all whiney fucktard nerds" with the way you are all acting. Pathetic. Truly sad to see. You think that engineers and technologists would get along. Without technologists you'd have 10 time the workload so chill out.

Funny thing about that is, technologists can gain just as equal creditation as a P.Eng after a few years of concentrating in one area, known as a Registered Professional Technologist. They'll earn the same responsibility and pay, doing the same type of work.Originally posted by badatusrnames
Couldn't agree more, I believe this is actually a bone of contention between ASET and APEGGA.
The engineering profession is regulated, and only those who have received a degree from a four year, accredited institution should be calling themselves engineers. If anyone got the last PEGG in the mail, there was a little blurb regarding people declaring themselves engineers because they have a diploma or certificate in some technical field.
This is similar to how people buying a PhD from an online university and declaring themselves doctors defiles the hard work of those that have actually earned their degree the proper way.
Having everyone declare themselves engineers after having completed their easy 2 year diploma cheapens the profession.
I dont know how you sit here saying it "cheapens" the profession for a technologist to drop the "tech". I think its attitudes such as yours that portrays engineers as "know-it-alls" and make it seem as if its some type of high society above all else. Fact of the matter is, engineers can do math, but when it comes to the practical side of things many are just as clueless as technologists are when it comes to math, keeping in mind there are always exceptions.
Taken from the ASET website:
"R.P.T.s have the same ability to practice as other members of APEGGA, although only within a scope of practice which will be defined for each individual based on their proven experience. They will be able to sign off and stamp work within their scope, whether done by themselves or others. They will also have the ability to apply for a permit to practice from APEGGA, enabling them to offer engineering services within a defined scope directly to the public. "
median pay is $60k for an engineer straight out of school. 65-70 is not unheard of for certain oil companies.

Some technologists make more than most gear heads. Hell a machinist in this city makes more than most gear heads. Either way LETS BATTLE ROYAL.
that's not very fair. there's like 10 technologists for every engineer.Originally posted by 01RedDX
5th year philosophy student here... what?
This thread should culminate in an all-out street battle between engineers and technologists, that would be kickass.
An Engineer and a Technologist were driving to a worksite one day.
They crashed and died. Both went up to heaven and God said "I only have room for one of you, make your plea before me as to why you should be in heaven."
The technologist says "I've been a good person all my life. I helped the poor, gave to charity, went to church when I could and was a straight up guy every day."
God says "Sounds good, Mr. engineer what say you"
The engineer says "God, I think you are sitting in my seat".
