The province is asking all Albertans for their thoughts on what the new design should look like.
Albertans will be asked whether the slogan Wild Rose Country should stay.
Service Minister, Lloyd Snelgrove says with a growing population now is a good time to consider the change.
“We will be out of combinations of numbers and letters on the current run of plates by 2009, we need to re-establish a new format so we can continue to produce new plates,” says Snelgrove.
The province also says it is considering bringing back the front plate.
While seeking input on the new design, the government will also ask whether Albertans want front plates or not.
Front plates were discontinued in 1991.
The current plates were designed in 1983.
