Opinions Please Xbox 360 Vs PS3

I am looking into either a PS3 or an Xbox 360 and need opinions from gamers. I know the Xbox has way more features and games but the PS3 plays Blu-ray and are planning on adding more games to their lineup. We just purchased a new 1080P 120hz LCD and want to get a system that has the best graphics to utilize the televisions features. We are not big gamers and we have 3 small children. What do we choose?

hey I have both running on sharp 120Hz 1080P via HDMI. I tryed Call of duty 4 on both and switched back and fourth with the inputs and there is no difference in PQ.

I voted for 360 even though I like my PS3 much better. It is a safe bet and if you only want one, it is the best choice. More games, and the multi-platform games will be out sooner on 360 and will also work better.

PS3 is strong for its first party games (which I really like - hence my happiness with it).

My Wii never gets used at all - other than for surfing the Net channel. Plus, the Wii will look bad on your nice new screen. The otyher two will look fantastic.

for a media center a ps3 (even though blu ray is now losing ground to hddvd and the internal conflicts within the companies that put blu ray out are not helping)

i have had all 3. the games that have been coming out on the 360 lately are unreal. between bioshock, halo 3, mass effect, and orange box (which is looking to get delayed again for ps3 due to huge development problems) there is just no comparison. the ps3 i rarly ever turn on. and i sold the wii i dont know. whatever floats your boat.

If your leaning more towards entertainment value over gaming, I would pick the ps3 because it's only $400 for a full blu-ray player with wi-fi that you can connect to your home network to share/view media with.

But since you have 3 kids, you should go with the Wii because they'll love that. The games are intuitive, and you can play as a family with them.

The wii is pretty damn fun. Anyone who says they are for 5 year olds is probably a hard core nerd who sits there gaming by himself all night every night. WHen you have friends over predrinking or w/e, the Wii is awesome.

2nd choice is the 360. PS3 doesn't even come with high def cables i thought?

why would someone sell an xbox360 for a ps3?

if you are using it to play games then there is no reason to get a ps3. if you want a cheap blu-ray player that sometimes doubles as a videogame machine, then pick ps3

Blu Ray is part of it. I also need wirless everything because my daughter is getting mobile. By the time I even pay for a wireless 360 controller Im at a $100 dollar difference (after I sell my 360).

So I might as well throw in the $100, get 5 free blu ray movies, wireless contrtollers, free online account, free HDMI cable, free wifi adapter, a free game, and free shipping from dell.

Get a little cheap TV and a Wii. No point in sending 480p from the Wii to the nice screen you bought.

360 is definitely the best console for gaming, it's selection is way better than PS3. The downside to it is that there are so many overheating (red light) issues with the 360 (I've had 2 already) that it's quite annoying. They cover you with their warranty but it's such a hassle and inconvenience.

Still, I'd choose the 360 over the PS3, just too much of a difference in game selection and Xbox live is sick.

I know there's Blu-Ray on Ps3 and if that's what you're looking for then it's a good choice, but there's still no clear winner between the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray optoins, and the HD-DVD add-on is only $100 for Xbox. I haven't went with eitehr option yet, but those are some things to consider.

But in your situation, maybe Wii is the route to go. As a party console, it is a helluva lot of fun, and with two kids it's great for them. I know it won't look great on your tv, but if you're not a huge gamer and you jsut want a system that your whole family can enjoy, Wii is the way to go. 360 has great games but they are all geared towards adults so it probably won't eb best for your situation.

Use your potential of your tv for movies/television shows.

If you want a few really good games - much better than the MS shills at review sites score them - and a media centre piece, get the PS3. You won't be sorry. Especially if you only have a few hours for gaming per week. Get Ratchet & Clank for your kids.

Long term the PS3 is a better value with its BR, inexpensive HDD upgrades and free multiplayer. But the conservative choice is a 360.

I am only getting a 360 for Mass Effect and Bioshock. Thats it. I am loathe to buy another one. The hardware is crap - loud and unreliable. Most of the games are crap (a few really good exceptions - GoW, H3 and BS). The fact that you pay for multiplayer makes the value (long term math) very bad if you consider cost of 3-5 years.

I did.

Bought a 360 cause it was out first. Sold it. Bought a 20 GB PS3. Then got a deal on a 60 GB Ps3. Traded the 20 GB for a 360 Premium. Got tired of crappy games after I finished GoW and sold it. Then Bioshock came out. Then Mass Effect. Now I need another 360.

some more thoughts:

The best games on 360 - I would even say the only ones worth buying a 360 for: Viva Pinata (kids), GoW, Halo 3 (debatable IMO), Bioshock and Mass Effect.

PS3 - Motorstorm, Ratchet, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword (debatable because of replay value), UT3

EA, Oblivion, CoD and the good Ubisoft games are out on both so they don't factor.

Maybe the smartest guys are the ones that will buy either console next year for $199 when there are more AAA games.

Thanks for all the excellent info! Sounds like the Xbox is the way to go from the poll results and opinions! The Wii would be a good for my children so I will look into that as well.

I am assuming that buying a used system is not a good idea as there would be no warranty available?

Where is the best place to pick up an Xbox and which edition is the best bang for my buck?

xbox 360's have a pretty high failure rate (estimated at 30%), but MS has updated their warranty to a full 3 years. So even used systems IMO are OK since they do warranty without receipts due to the huge volume of RMA's.

Wii is a fun party game console... And I love Guitar Hero's wireless control...
However, PS3's graphic is the best...

I would buy used, but the 360 is holding its value so don't bother. If you can only save $100 buying used then get a brand new one with the newer cooler chips and HDMI port.

The new ones use 175 watt power supplies verses the old 203 watt ones (printed on the back of the box).

For small kids Wii.
There are almost no titles for PS3 or Xbox for small kids.
