Has one that these courses?
If you've taken CPSC 513 how does it compare to CPSC 413?
Thanks

take seng 513
cant no 411
531 was a gong show with that foreign prof.
worst course ever.
it's basically a high level math course. passed it and never want anything to do with it ever again.

I took both of them.
They're both math courses in disguise. I passed 531 but it was brutal, I think the average on our midterm was around 40% and the assignments were really tough.
513 is nothing like 413, I only took it for the first week because it didn't take long to realize that it's a useless class, pure theory that you would never use in the real world.
Can you maybe tell me what exactly is done in 531? The course description is really vague.Originally posted by whiskas

SENG 531 in it's correct form is supposed to be about mathematically proving the correctness of a program. Sadly since it is taught by Dr. Wang it is butchered into a nonsensical course about his strange formal method he invented RTPA. Pretty much the course is pointless but it is an easy B if you are just looking for a class that doesn't require much effort.Originally posted by Street_Soldier

Read what Dr. Far has to say about Dr. Wang...

Shit i meant seng 513 whoops, probably the only class i learnt anything useful. Thats if they offer it anymore
531 is models and simulation. You start off by going over some basic probability, if you've taken STATS211 it will become familiar to you. Then you move into distribution models, that's where the fun begins. By the end of the course you will be familiar with quite a few distribution models (when to use them, how to use them, equations associated with them) and will probably implement some of them in a simple application. The math is actually very similar in style to MATH271 because a lot of what you are doing is proofs, along with everyones favorite, induction.
They're absolutely ANAL about the homework. I remember there being some retarded question on the first assignment, like if you have 4 dice what is the probability of rolling two 6's. The answer is easy, but a majority of the class got a zero on that question because you had to show ever single bit of detail when calculating the answer, you pretty much have to assume the person marking it is retarded and needs to be explained every simple thing.
531 was gay (when they made it harder) that semester it was in the trailer outside.

2016 VW Passat BiTDI
how does the work compare to other cpsc classes?
the same, less or more?
CPSC classes such as 413?
never took 513, but i took 531 (if that's the simulations course) in spring or summer a couple of years ago with the brown prof (forgot his name) and i thought it was a joke. the project we had to do, me and my friend pretty much BS'd it.
for assignments i think we used some sort of simulations program and just fed it data... it gives you results and you try to make something out of them.
