i named my testicles Muhammad
you cant do shit to me
trying is the first step towards failure
Thread title is inaccurate, since the kids named the teddy, not her.
Though she is responsible, follow the rules in the country you're in and you won't have a problem, she shouldn't have been so ignorant.
It really does not matter who named the teddy Muhammad.. It's just a miscalculation on her part, they don't need to go overboard. Even if she was ignorant this is taking religion tooooo far... I am muslim and i call this Bull $hit...Originally posted by Hakkola

I think certain speed limits are stupid, and certain aspect of gun control, and defense of property laws in Canada are stupid. Doesn't mean if I break them there will be no consequence.
I know it is miscalculation on her part, that is why I said she was responsible.
Hakkoda has a point, unfortunately all the examples he used DO have the potential to inflict, impinge on the freedoms, or hurt another human being.
Her crime and punishment is no different that one of us being jailed in canada for having an eighth of pot, because that is essentially a moralistic holdover from our seemingly unshakable christian theocratic roots.
I guess the difference here, is that in canada you wouldn't need an armed escort to protect you from the uneducated masses of religous zealots calling for your execution, but we do have 500 years on islam.
Am I missing something in your post? I thought you said it was the children that named the teddy bear, not the teacher. It is highly unlikely that the teacher is responsible for the religious education of these children, then how can she be held responsible for their choice of name for the bear? If this choice is seen to be offensive, then surely is it the children's religious educators who are at fault?Originally posted by Hakkola

Because when you are working and living in another country, you are expected to know and acknowledge the rules.Originally posted by ICEBERG

After all the hoopla with the muhammed cartoons, you would expect that most people would know the deal with the name muhammed, even outside of an Islamic country.
I never said not to question laws, did I? I said existing laws should be observed in the country in which you live, or face the consequences.Originally posted by finboy

her actions questioned the law, its unfortunate that she lives in a country with such a shitty government/legal system and likely won't be able to put up a valid defense.Originally posted by Hakkola

Next time I get a speeding ticket I'll try that though. "Sir, I wasn't breaking the law, just questioning it!"
Big deal, it is only 15 days in prison then she gets deported, maybe it will teach her not to be so stupid.Originally posted by finboy

actions questioning the lawShe escaped conviction for inciting hatred and showing contempt for religious beliefs, and will now appeal.
you've never fought a speeding ticket before?Next time I get a speeding ticket I'll try that though. "Sir, I wasn't breaking the law, just questioning it!"
10 days in jail and deported from the country is a pretty big deal considering the kids in her class named a bear muhammad. not to mention...

the punishment does not fit the crime. With the media getting wind of it, it projects worse on the law makers then her, and as such, brings the law into question by many around the world. She could have faced up to 40 lashes if found guilty on all three charges against her.

In our opinion, the punishment does not fit the crime, that is probably not the opinion of most people in the country.Originally posted by finboy

I very much doubt her questioning of the law is going to create any change, she will be given special treatment due to political pressure, but this won't change anything for anybody else living in the country.
The only tickets I have fought were the ones where I was not guilty of any crime. This lady IS guilty of a crime.

them "moslems" have a point
god forbid if someone named an animal, Jesus, Christians would be just as upset.
