    Default Preventing Rust Well?

    Hey everyone,
I drive a BMW E30 (1987) and I'm really worried about rust becoming an issue, especially as we head into winter. I already have a small patch on the driver door on the corner by the front wheel.

I'm curious about what the best ways to prevent rust are. I'm not so worried about getting rid of it (yet), just for now keep it from becoming worse.

I know there is Cathodic protection (or something like that anyways), but I'm not sure how it works or how much it costs to get installed.

Alternatively, there are cans of spray at Canadian Tire that claim to stop developing rust and stuff. I can't imagine that those work at all- am I wrong?

I love my car and I just want to make sure it doesn't get eaten!

    Thanks everyone!!!
    ~Ian

There is no point in getting that (not that I even know if it works) after your car has already started to rust. Just keep your car clean and wash it often to get all that gunk out of there.

But, once rust starts, its really just going to keep spreading, only way to fix is weld/replace the panel.
