Default How much electricity do you use?

My electric bills seem to be getting worse and worse. I realize the rates are going up, but my last bill (Oct 16-Nov 15) Was $480!!! And that doesn't include my gas..just electric/water and sewage.

My house used 1,956 Kwh's for the month. That seems awfully high. I have a hot tub..but no grow op. so I'm curious how much others use per month.

I'm going to check my meter to see if its faulty, but other than that I can't understand why its so high.

Jesus that's high. Maybe check your meter reading to make sure it's accurate. My bill is around $250/month.

depends on what you have in your house.

In BC when we are rating houses for new subdivisions, houses with 200A services and electric heat we rate at a yearly average of 19,000 KHW/Yr

Turn off your grow-op, that might help.

An average household in Alberta consumes about 7200 kWh/yr. I believe the average is based on a 1500 sq ft home. (at least it was when I worked in the industry)

Wow, that is stupid high. In Calgary I was paying $95-$100/month.

In BC I pay ~$40/month with the A/C running all the time in the summer and $80/month with the heaters going in the winter (electric heat only in my house) but that isn't really fair to compare

2000kwh is insane, thats ~66kwh/day, or at any given time of the day you are using 3000W/hour or 23A at 120V. That is a LOT of electricity.

Thats why I think our meter is buggered up or something. Its an average 1800 sq ft bungalow, no electric heat, a hot tub, some in floor heating (which doesn't draw much at all)....

I'm gonna test it tomorrow and have Enmax come and take a look.

    1000kwh/month. That's 2300sqft 2 storey 1 furnance and 3 running computer, 1 server and RP TV avg 3hr/night.

    I can't imagine 2000kwh month.

Yeah I leave my PC on all day, usually fall asleep with the TV on, AND usually forget to turn off a few lights when I go to school, I am basically the king of wasting electricity, and I don't even pay that much...

Either that or tell the grow-op next door that tapped into your supply to gtfo.

it is 9000 now without any form of electric heating or backup on a 200A service,

I think we use around 7000 for a 125A service with no heating, etc

Maybe they billed you for the difference of the last few months. They don't get around to checking everyone's meter, so a lot of the time they estimate your usage, and bill you that estimate, but when they do finally come around and check your meter, your usage has been up for say 2-3 months, then this is why your bill is an extra 200 bucks. Hope this makes sense.

I used 972 kWh last month, that's 1100sq.ft house, 60 gallon fish tanks, an iguana cage, and gecko tank.

Did they recently change your electric meter?

Asides from what happened to npham and abyss (which has happened to me as well), one time the city changed my meter, but the paperwork didn't get to Enmax for months. Even though I was calling in the #'s every month, they weren't billing me for those numbers, they were billing me for whomever had my original meter # AFTER me, so when all the paperwork caught up, I had a bill for almost $500. I was pissed, but it wasn't like they were overcharging me, they were just undercharging me for 4 months, and finally caught up.

Do you live in a new neighborhood? A friend in Cochrane discovered all the contractors using his outside plugs and water while building the house next to him. He shut the water and breakers off, and the a-holes smashed his water tap right off.

They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.
