Default WRX: First Gear and Reverse Grinding

do any of you have this problem? i know i do. sometimes in slow traffic slowing down pop it into 2nd, and then my rpms get really loow. so i decide to pop it into first, and then GREGFDGDD, grinded the gears . and also in reverse sometimes, when im backing out of my driveway, i turn the car on, let it warm up a bit, clutch in, put it into reverse then GREGADD, grind that gear.

this i know mustsnt do good for the tranny at all. and the noise is just really, harsh to hear. do any of you guys have this problem?
i read about this NEO transmission fluid. does anyone have it? it claims you can get into first gear at 20mph

hmm any help/ advice would be great. thanks in advance.

well, you will need to rev match to get your car smoothly into first while rolling...syncros can only do so much.

Check your shift linkage though, could need alignment

If you're still moving, even like really slow, rev it just slightly and then "push" into 1st. DONT JAM IT!!!! 1st gear on the WRX is a bitch. But then again, there's no reason for you to go into 1st even if you're moving super slow. Unless some car is coming up behind you really fast or something.

Never had a problem with reverse, since I have a habit of going to 1st then 2nd then reverse.

Do a search in the tranny forum on NASIOC. Don't kill the glass tranny.

yea like some mags have said, 1st gear is useless on track when you have to use it.

at times i feel like i have to use it cause im going soo slow. and feels like im going to stall in 2nd. which wouldnt be cool at all.

well if it doesn't want to go into 1st, don't force it. that's just asking for trouble, and i don't think your pops would like that.

Give it gas and keep your stick up against whichever gear you wanna shift to.. No need to force it... It will drop itself in once you bring it up to proper revs.. Same with reverse at a standstill.. I always thought that damn grind on reverse was on old cars though..

yep, never force it into any gear. properly rev matched, it should slide right in with no resistance.

yea i guess i need to practice this heel toe thing more often. most of the time its in like slooow traffic where i have been downshifitng. and then gets to a point where its really slow and needs first. and breaking at the same time, guess thats where heel-toe comes in right?

why would you need to heel 'n' toe in slow traffic??? keep it in 2nd, and leave it at that. you dont have to constantly shift between gears, and less wear and tear on other parts as well.

heh, 2nd at like 500 rpms? its starts to jitter, the car does (sign of almost stalling)

edit: soo to me thats just a reason to pop it into first.

oo well imma look into this neo transmission fluid though.

i guess you're right.....hmmm, but you ever stuck in a situation where, traffic stops, THEN you have to get into first, then traffic starts to go again. ahh sucha hassle waiting for first gear to get in while traffic is moving.

if that's the case, leave it in 2nd, and ride the clutch just a BIT. better a burnt clutch than missing gears!

I have one also, and yes I do occasionally get the grinding when shifting into reverse.

Parked car, turn it on, clutch on the floor, shift into reverse to back up, and grind...

I have no idea why it does that.

I can get my car going fron a dead stop in 4th gear man, so you shouldn't have any problem getting your turbocharged 227hp car going in second.
