    Default Antibiotics vs alcohol

So I was put on Zinthromax, and New Year's is coming up. I know it's not recommended to drink alcohol with antibiotics, but I was wondering since I take the last pill in the afternoon today (~3PM) should I be ok to drink tomorrow?

In general, when you drink while on medication, you reduce the effacacy of the medication because your body focuses on breaking down the alcohol. So while you are still taking the pills, you are getting nothing form it if you are drinking.

What you need to worry about is if the medication has any interactions with alcohol. This can make you sick. Some antibiotics have interaction while others dont. A qucik search doesnt show Zithromax as having any. But best to ask your doctor or your pharmacist.

The search also showed Zithromax is commonly prescribed for Chlamydia.

If you drink on Buproprian however.....it amplifies the effects of alcahol like 3x. Buproprian i believe is the active ingredient in Prozac, and also...believe it or not, in quit smoking medication.

Anyways, I wasn't going to drink heavily. Just a beer or three. I'm going to a party with my girlfriend, so I don't really have a need to get wasted, I was just gonna have a few beers.
    I can't ask my doctor because I'm 17. :p

Dont worry about your age. Your interaction with your doc is confidential. And you dont think your doc doesnt know young people drink?

Yeh your doctor can't do shit! because it's private stuff, and it's confidential what you talk about between him, and you.

Why not drink like scotch to kill the bacteria! or sambuca... I'm sure a high enough percentage of alcohol will kill the bacteria

Bacterial Pneumonia, Strep Throat, Sinus Infections, The Shits from certain forms of food borne illness etc etc can all be treated with Antibiotics. Antibiotics are used for many bacterial related illnesses, and so it is possible he might have one of the above but just classifies it as a cold as a lot of people would. People can be sick with more than "The Common Cold" which is Viral (antibiotics are useless against virus') and say they have a cold.

In any case, back to the question at hand and away from people trying to be funny and continue insisting he's got chlamydia, Rest time and following your prescriptions directions to the T, is always a great way to recover the fastest. A beer or two might not hurt, but still, the directions are there for your benefit.

If you do actually have the Clap, welp, that sucks. LOL.

Just ask a pharmacist if you want. As far as I can recall, there is only one type of antibiotic that you should avoid alcohol with.
