How cute...game goes to a shootout...Crosby, the face of the NHL, scores the shootout winner. Maybe a fluke...or a PR move by Bettman...Nah. Entertaining game!

Awesome stuff, I'd love to see more outdoor NHL games. I froze my ass off at the Heritage Classic and loved every minute of it.

    Hahaha, I saw that too.

Game was amazing, I was hoping for either a high scoring game or a shootout, good way to end it. I hope they make this a yearly event. It was awesome!

Ya its a real cool event, Looks like they had alot of fun out there despite the bad playing conditions.

But i guess its like any other sport played outside you just have to deal with it and play a little more conservitive.

    Overtime was fun to watch.

I didn't get to see it, but I watched the highlights on ESPN and it looked like a great game. Selling out 71000 tickets, huh. What's the size of a usual indoor game? 30000?

    not even...avg around20,000

    NHL Arenas

I think they should look at doing more outdoor games, bring in more revenue. 50,000 more tickets at, what, $40 average....thats an extra $2,000,000 in revenue per game!!

Watched a bit of it at Dixons. Commentators were talking about how cold it was for the players...pffft..it was hovering around zero!! 90% of those guys grew up playing pond hockey in weather down to -30. At one time you could see Sydney squirt some water down his jersey to cool off.

I think tickets were substantially more than $40 for even the worst seats, I remember one of the guys said he talked to a couple fans at the top of the stadium who said they paid $100 for their tickets. Maybe they bought from scalpers though.

Your extra revenue number is very conservative as well.
In Buffalo: With an average per game attendance of 17,500 over the last two years, gate receipts have totaled $31 million per year, and concessions have accounted for $8.6 million per year over the course of 41 home games.

Playoff games bring increased attendance, and increased ticket prices, producing an average of $1.4 million in direct team revenues per game. With a multiplier of 1.5, this brings the average amount of revenue derived per playoff game to $2 million.

These numbers are from 2001, they're probably significantly higher now.
