    Default Woman sues drug dealer

Sask woman in Biggar, buys some crystal meth and OD's (heart attack, she's 19) therefore it's the dealers fault for providing high quality narcotics I read this initally in the Herald. I would somewhat understand if the guy had sold her something else, but in both articles there is no mention of it being anything other than meth.

"Bergen said after she overdosed on the drug in May 2004, she nearly died of a heart attack. Then 19 years old, she spent 11 days in a coma and was left with a number of long-term physical ailments."

Looks like she got a bit more then just physical ailments.

She didn't win on the strength of the case. She won because the guy won't rat out his hook up. Had that not happened it may have been a difficult win.

"Bergen said cash in her pocket is not really what she was after — she just wanted to show drug dealers that they stand to lose whatever they have now."

Come on....Its always about the money. I hate when people say " I want to make a statement.." or " I want to Show people that......." .

Isn't this a great way to get a bounty put on your head?

However, I am guessing in Biggar Sask. they aren't that big time.

the case should not be winable fro the lady i dont think, assuming the dealer gets a non-retarted lawyer.

i cant see how there was a legal duty of care in this case, they were both doing illegal things. how is the government supposed to regulate illegal actions. thats like saying the government should regulate the relations of mafia families. that simply does not make sense.

I couldn't agree more. As I was reading this story, I was think WTF, how could she sue her drug dealer... at the time she bought it.. she was probably looking for the best stuff she could get her hands on.

Who goes to their drug dealer and says "ya, just give me the shittiest dope you've got" unreal.

also, it's crystal meth... one of the dirtiest drugs.

Hahaha... next you'll see dealers making every buyer sign a waiver. What a f'n joke.

Was it too much to ask that she'd die from the heart attack?

fucking junkies can take their drug dealers to court now, what cracks me up is this part of her statement

"You know, it's a lot bigger than me," she said. "And it's a lot bigger than this particular drug dealer."

I doubt the courts let her win because they actually thought she deserved the damages, it does open up the door to making drug dealers a lot more libel for what they do. Then hopefully discouraging drug dealers in general, or at least encourage them to stop selling stuff laced with rat poison.

That being said, Meth is just natural selection. Odds are if you're dumb enough to use it I wouldn't want your genes back in the pool anyways.

There are states in the US where this precedent has been set but this is the first of it's kind in Canada.

But what the hell ever happened to personal responsibility? Yeah, he MADE you take drugs. Go to hell.
