Default How to remove steering wheel??

Hey guys just need some help. I picked up a stock honda steering wheel from an old prelude over at Pick your part and I wanted to stick it in my 91 Civic hatch......problem is I dunno how to do it!!??

Can someone kindly explain to me how to remove the wheel and replace it with the other??

    TIA

i take it you have no cruise, so it'll be a snap, only thing is you gotta make sure you place the wheel back as straight as you can. Pry open the honda emblem on the wheel, you'll see a nut in there it's a nylon threaded nut, they said you should replace it after taking it out, but it's not really necessary. Make sure your wheels are straight and not turned. Mark a spot on the column where the nut is and also on the steering wheel you got now, so if in the future you ever want to put it back it'll be a snap. Now get whatever sized socket you need for that bolt, get someone to hold onto your wheel and you turn the nut, it's gonna take some force but it'll come loose easily. You should see some wires now for your horn, it'll be connected to a harness.

On the prelude wheel you'll see a harness as well and very similar wiriing. well i doubt you can use that harness onto your crx.. so take the harness from your crx's steering wheel and cut the wires off, match them up with the wires on the prelude, use solding if you can cuz crimping was a bit tight when you have to get everything back in again. no plug in the harness test out your horn.

If everything is good, put the prelude steering wheel back in making damn sure that you can get it as close to being aligned properly so that you won't be holding your wheel slightly to the left or right when you're moving straight. Simple concept right

Now reattach that bolt you had, again get someone to hld onto the wheel... Torque it, it's a part that you'll be moving a lot and it's a nylon thread so best to torque it

Don't think i left anything out if you have problems still PM me

The steering wheel usually won't come off just from pulling on it so then you will need a steering wheel puller.

just pry off the h, take it out with a 19mm socket. and the installation is the reverse of the removal. you will have issues with clearing the windshield and lights stalks. the prelude steering wheel doesn't stick out as much as the civics do, so it won't reach out as much as the civics. it feels better but you'll have one hell of a time trying to turn on your high beams. also, if it came with cruise there is another problem. cutting off the wires will solve that easy. anyways, good luck.

    1) remove attaching nut and everything in the way to get at it.

    2) remove steering wheel

    3) to install reverse procedure

Sorry couldn't resist. You can usually get any wheel off just by pulling on it and tapping the nut with a brass hammer. Make shure you have the nut on a couple threads or you to will need dental work.
