Default Heading to Swiss/Austria with Rogers cell phone

Can anyone tell me their experiences with Rogers cell phone overseas?

I've been through their website. I've got a MotorolaV3T which, according to the website, will work over there.

I'm wondering about the cost. Website says $2.00/min home, $0.60 per txt msg, free incoming. Whatever, but is there anything like a flat fee just to access another network, like, if I turn on my phone, I'm already billed $10 or something like that?

Basically, if I send 5 or 6 txt msgs, make no calls, am I still going to have a cell phone bill of a $100???

Do I have to call Rogers and let them know I'm going over there?

    Thanks for your help

you have to call rogers and tell them what citys you are going to be in order to use your cell phone. they implement that for security reasons (ie your cell phone is stolen)

I went to europe with my rogers phone for 5 weeks, came back with a $1200 phone bill...

    heres my advice,
when you get there, go to a mobility store...buy a simcard for 7.00 Euros, put it in your phone and buy a phone card. this way your in control of how much you use, and you wont shit yourself when you get back home and see your rogers phone bill..

    good luck.

regardless of what people on here say, I'd want to hear the info first hand from a Rogers rep. The last thing I'd want is to get surprised with a $300 phone bill.

a rogers rep will tell you the same thing thats posted on the website. I even called in before I left for europe, and I didnt even use my phone that much.

buying a simcard overseas and calling cards is probably the smartest thing you can do.

    $300 phone bill??? I wish...try $1200...

either way...if you have internet access to where ever your heading, and you have to send txts...go to the rogers website and send them on there for free

when I hit the reply button to reply to the post, that was before your $1200 post appeared. $300 was just a guess.

Don't turn it on unless necessary, roaming fees add up quick.

Wayyyyyyyyyy cheaper to unlock your phone, and buy a local sim and use it instead prepaid.

Pardon my ignorance - but can anyone direct me to an easy way of "unlocking" my phone. Motorazr V3T.

$1200, I don't think so. 7 euros, even if I have to do it for each country - no problem.

    Thanks for your help

I've been with Rogers for years and have used my phone in most of eastern europe, austria, germany, swiss, england, and most of carribean. You only pay what you read on their website. If you are gonna be using it for mostly text and even couple of quick calls, you are not gonna get a crazy bill. If you make alot of calls, ofcourse it can add up.

Yeah, most prepaid sims are 15 euros, and come with a starter credit too. Which IMO is alot better than any risk of a $250+ bill.

I can unlock the Rogers V3T for you, $30 via paypal. Takes 1-2 days. Send me a PM if interested!

You're not charged roaming unless you place/receive a call or use data.
