Default The Cycle has started, calgary housing crisis, and the crash

watch this video from jan 1982 about calgary

they are started being concerned about crime, housing problems and crime from people who came from out east. (just like that 21 year old murderer from ontario)

    "

Eastern Canadians flock to Boomtown — 2,600 new people arrived in Calgary last month — to find jobs during a North American recession. As a result, the city deals with a housing crisis and the majority of bank robberies are committed by migrants. "

Just before the crash of 82

+1 Early 80's was a totally different situation. Alberta will come out the best in 08 out of all provinces in Canada with economic growth predicted at 3.6% (predictions range from 2.4-4.6%) Followed more then likely by SK.

we will cool down but I think sustained growth is a possibility.

I know at our company we are set up to take a hit, we have a core of about 250 to 300 employees and 50 to 100 contractors on at all times. Shit goes slow the contractors loose their jobs.

The funniest thing is that the contractors are usually retired guys from the departments making more money then they ever did before.

I am not 100% confident in past trends helping us to predict this situation, in the 1980's boomers were in their 30's and 40's and still had a long way to go until retirement, so all those people HAD to work. Now though most of them have enough money to retire comfortable (which is arguable by the guys who have ferarri's and lambo's) or have already retired comfortably, and there isn't this mad rush of people looking for work.

Tarsands companies are brining people in from NWT, meat packing plants (i think) are moving people in from PEI. If these places didn't have the need, they wouldn't be hiring.

Now the boomers in Alberta can retire because we have driven up the prices of the houses they sold last year.

Good find, it's funny because I think if they played that clip today it would sound pretty close to what we have now except the robberies bit, I don't know if its that bad yet.
