    Default Telus Coverage in Calgary

Hi, how is the quality of the Telus cellular phone coverage in Calgary? I am with Rogers right now, and thinking of switching to Telus. Telus is using CDMA, same as Bell Mobility, and I heard that bell quality is just so so in Calgary, sometimes can't even get signal in Panorama Hills! Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    New phone.

GSM phone reception also varies greatly pending charge level of battery.

Any network with a shitty phone won't give you any better service.

Thanks, Xtrema. Do you mean that Telus is OK? I am thinking of getting the LG Shine with the Chinese New Year promotion.

Telus should be ok. It's better someone with LG Shine on Telus to comment.

My HTC Wizard on Rogers works perfectly fine around Panorama Hills. Although that's closer to the golf course and Hanson Ranch area, not the new area.

The only reason I put up with Telus's crappy selection of phones is their reception. I get reception everywhere (except for elevators for some odd reason). If you do a lot of highway driving or backroads and need reception, Telus is the only way to go.

Telus and Bell run on the exact same networks as far as cellular phones. I work at bell and I have a blackberry 8830 and I never lose a connection

Agreed...but like others have stated...I have NEVER had a negative experience with Telus' Customer Service Dept.

I have the Telus LG 8700 Shine and my reception is great. I never drop calls and I receive all phone calls and msgs. for Telus Mobility.

Thanks for much for all your inputs. I will probably go ahead with Telus. I've called Rogers retention Dept, and they couldn't match the deal from Telus. They offered me a plan with

    250min wk day
    unlimited wk end/evenings
    CID, VM, ...
    for $20 + SAF

but they didn't have free phones except those cheaper ones (Sony W200, Nokia 6085, ...)

If you work downtown, Telus can be total crap.

I'm on the 34th floor of my building, so not exactly buried in a parking garage, and the Telus guys only get intermittent signal and end up with dead batteries really fast because of all the searching. With Rogers, I get full signal.

I know a lot depends on the phone too. My KRZR, although a typical Moto POS is really good for reception. I was on hold on the train one day going to pick up my car and made it through all of the tunnels going to the NW without my call dropping.

I've had my Telus number for about 7 years and haven't had any issues with reception or customer service. Their phone selection isn't the greatest but I'm a Blackberry fan and most of the ones Telus offers all the other ones have as well.

Only time I've had reception issues is downtown at Bankers Hall and at the Royal Bank Building in the elevators but that's about it.

Even though I am with bell right now, I think that rogers is probably better than telus.

The shitty Nokia phone I had with Rogers (and I have lost it a week ago) didn't have great reception. I sometimes couldn't find signal in Market Mall. Maybe it was the phone problem other than Rogers network problem.

CDMA is superior in terms of signal.

    idem, gsm = NO GOOD!!

as the cost of CDMA NETWORK Basestation comes down, many counteries are deploying CDMA networks world wide. see cdg.org
