Found boss' porn at work!

K, so I do web design and while working on a website I found possible evidence that my Boss used website code from a porn site (www.highdefteenz.com if you guys must know). Now obviously this material at work is a big deal and huge blow if it people found out. However, I can't just leave the file in the website. Also, I hate my boss and he's a textbook asshole. I can just remove the file but that would be protecting my boss. So how should I handle this and make it public so I can bring down my boss without incriminating myself?

Surfing porn will hardly be considered a big deal at any workplace. Not enough to get him fired or anything. If he was surfing porn in front of female co-workers and saying "she kinda looks like you" to the secretary then it would be something different.

The fact that you had to snoop around on his computer to find it means that he was doing it discretely and that in the end no one will really care. If the company was that strict about porn they would put filters in place to prevent it from happening.

Well I'm not going for something as big as getting him fired, embarassment is enough.

And I wasn't snooping on his personal stuff, the files were located within the website directories.

Re-read what he wrote. He didn't find a link to pr0n on his boss's computer, he found out that his boss stole code from a pr0n site.

If you're aiming for embarrassment, you can always send out an email to all project participants about the suspect code you found and inquire about who put it there and that it should be there, etc. Others would be able to trace it back to your boss too.

cut and paste what you found, and put it in a memo including the bosses name, and write a note reminding employees not to visit these sites as everything is monitored.

Then just print off a bunch and when the office is emptier than normal, go around leaving them everywhere (coffee room, break room , fax/copier area etc)

Why not go up to him in private and tell him you found these websites and are not making any allegations but just remind him to be careful what he is searching because other people will eventually see it. Maybe if you keep it quiet he might be respectful of that and stop being such a hardass.
On the other hand if in your company rules it states that you can't access these websites you might have to have a conversation with him and some other managers.

Wrong.

Viewing porn is in direct contravention of a whole hell of a lot of workplaces IT usage policies and often can be and is grounds for immediate dismissal. Also, filters aren't 100% bulletproof. Ever get any spam in your inbox at work?

OP - If it's against company policy why not just hand over your findings to your system admins and play dumb as to knowing who they belong to? Let them sleuth it out and deal with it.

peps makes a good point. If you approach him in confidence, after deleting it, but saving proof if ever needed for later, he might not be such a dick to you knowing you have dirt on him.

If I did websites I would surf porn sites looking for ideas too.

if u have access to his computer then send an email out on his behalf. theres many things u can do actually...

since u seem to have access to some files, then perhaps add a file to his startup folder that will open the info.. i won't say how or what to add but theres things u can do

seriously, the only one who's gonna look like an idiot is gonna be you... If i heard that a coworker has watched porn, i dont think i would even flinch... Hell, when almost every chick has a vibrator, and when guys wack off like 5 times a day, i dont think there is any secret about what's on everyone's mind all day, so hearing that someone is checking out porn doesnt get any sort of reaction out of me... Even if your boss was a duche, this would be one of the silliest things to attack him on. Is this a laptop or a work computer? If it's a laptop, save your dignity and shut up about it, coz he most likely surfed that shit at home... Even if its the work computer, i cant see him, or anyone, jerkin it at work under the table... i mean come on, where do you work??

Not to mention that he could just turn it around and say that he was only there to copy some of their code... or even worse, what if he copied the code from a forum or whatever, where he thought he was getting a small piece of code that could help him, without any idea the same code came off a porn site... i dont know, but either way, trying to bring someone down over porn sounds really petty... that's just like being one of those loser lifers that work at shitty jobs like safeway, and think that the only way to get ahead at their job is to snitch on people and rat people out mercilessly everyone hates those people, so dont be one
