    Default Fairlady/240sx

just was wondering if a Nissan fairlady 300zx VG30DETT engine would fit into my 1989 240sx and if it does what other stuff would i need so that it would run?

Well, you would need to take that engine compartment and completely pull out EVERYTHING else....
And maybe get the whole front clip from the VG30DETT.
I know a guy in town who has a really good one for sale if you think you can do it.

Don't plan on it fitting easily or at all without a very big wallet to pay for all the custom work your going to need done.

Also if Roy doesnt have that engine anymore, then another good guy to check with is SinisterProbeGT on here or boi-alien.

All three fellows have great hookups.

it probably would fit with a bit of increasing your engine compartment size. Personally I would rather put a rb20det in for that type of cash.

It would be worse than a nightmare cuz a guy that by bro works with tried to do it on his 93 nissan Hardbody pickup which came with a v6 but the TT engine is soooo wide with the 2 turbos on either side, it made it impossibe to put in even in a truck. He eventually went with an SR motor. which is your best choice as well. I'm gonna try an RB25DET this winter in my car... I hope it fits.

Yeah man VG30DETT is way too wide for the engine bay.
I have never seen the RB25DET in an S13-S14, but with some custom work, it could deffinetly be done. A few shops in Japan specialize in swapping RB26DETT's into S13's, so the 2.5 with only a single turbo should work out fine. As far as I know, its a good strong powerplant. Out of the skyline GT-S I think. If you did that, you could use the skyline transmission too with a custom driveshaft.

The engine and all the parts it needs to survive (let alone power a car) won't fit in the bay period. Unless you get super creative and start relocating everything to... dunno, France?

I think it'll cost so much that you're probably better off getting a brand new 350z

agreed actually the rb25det is a common swap.. well not that common but alot of people with the $$ do them.. i read on a 240sx site that the rb26dett can be swaped in wiht out to much extra effort.. but jus cuz i read it dosnet make me an expert. if your goin for something with 6 cylinders go wiht the rb25det. i bet it costs less money then the vg30dett

Go with a RB26 red top much better conversion, but the fair lady Z would be an outstanding convert.
things to rember the fairlady is all wheel drive and the engine is much bigger. you can do a VG30dett rear wheel drive for much less than a fair lady Z. I have a fair lady Z and a VG30DETT rear drive both in clip format. if your intersted!
as well as a RB26det. and a RB25DET skyline motor in a clip so your options are there but rember if you spend 4 or 5 K on a motor your going to spend a least half that on Install. but good luck can't wait to see it rolling.

SR20 will outperform the VG. You see many more modded Silvias than Fairlady's. Be original, get a CA18det to kick some ass. Anyways to answer your question anything can be done with enough $$$$.
