Didn't they have something like this on top gear? it was a BMW that learned the track or something.
SEAT hasn't been the only company playing with this idea. It's similar to what some of the big engineering universities are doing in the states for the DARPA challenges, and that BMW that did show up on Top Gear. Even Toyota/Lexus autopark technology is based on the same principals.

Not that it couldn't happen at some point, but I think that we are a long ways off yet for a number of reasons.

There's not doubt an AI will drive a perfect track lap time when it's the only car on the track.
I don't think it'll work well with a bunch of cars on track.
