    Default Wanna Upgrade my lens

I bought a rebel xti and wanted to buy a good walk around lens. I'm considering a Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens or a Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens. Just wondering if anyone has some incite or recommendations.

    thanks

The 17-85 is a more versatile range for your camera. You will have trouble shooting stuff indoors with the 28-135. In fact, the 17-85 is basically a copy of the 28-135 that canon made specifically for the digital rebels and other 1.6 crop cameras. It gives the same field of view on your camera as the 28-135 does on a Full frame or film camera.

what is your budget for new lens like?
If you can spend around 350~400, then i would suggest to go for Tamron 17-50 or Sigma 18-50 macro. Both of them have really good optic/image quality and you won't regret it.

I bought my 30D with the 28-135 and wish I got the 17-85 combo. My thought was that the 28 would let me take a wide range of photos with one lense. I know I could have used the extra angle more then the zoom. I'm going to add a 10-22 to my collection here soon.

The 17-50 is more of a special purpose zoom - it's bright and has great optics, but it's too limited in reach as a walk around lens. Of the 2 choices, the 17-85 is a no-brainer for your crop sensor. You should also consider the image stabilized Sigma 18-200 DC OS as the ultimate walk around lens.
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!

    17-85 IS if you're on a budget

17-55 F2.8 IS if you like the wide end. <-IS is a great bonus, but this lens has a rep. for sucking in a lot of dust. my coworker has one and its barely used with quite a bit of dust under the front element

24-70 F2.8L if you like the longer end + it's weather sealed and has a fancy red ring on the end.

I personally love my 24-70 F2.8L and it spends most of its time on my camera.

I also have a 10-22 so I don't worry about losing on the wide end much.

I love this lens. I find it really versitile and super sharp.

I haven't experienced the dust problem mentioned in the above post.
