R/C airplanes

Anyone into R/C planes? I just got one for Xmas and it's a lot of fun. I got a Hobbystore Supercub at PM hobby during their Xmas sale. It's super easy to fly.

Isn't there a designated area to fly those? Or just anywhere?

I just worry about liability.

i've always wanted to get into it but it's kinda pricey...

I tried it. Could fly easily but couldn't land worth a damn. Crashed it way too many times and gave up.

I was told if it's non gas powered you can use any field. I don't fly it if there is anyone (who's not with me) anywhere on the field.

The plane I got was $140 for the whole thing. That inlcluded all the batteries, chargers, remote, everything. Way cheaper that I thought it would be.

They get WAY pricier when you started getting into (and crashing) realistic models.

A co-worker was really into them before he got a girlfriend...

I fly RC helis. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from PM hobbycraft. Action hobby in the SE beats their prices by at least 30%.


I fly mine at a school field or any 200ft x 200ft open space. I will land if there are kids or animals around because the blades could literally decapitate a small animal.

I do the same as soon as I see someone going onto the field which is rate in the winter. I will give the other shop a try as well.

This plane flies pretty well for how cheap it is. It is suppose the be the best trainer out there.

haha this is cheap, now if you do rc cars, trucks etc. I got my first rc truck almost 2 years ago and it cost me $1000 bucks, so this is an awesome deal for just starting out.

My dad was really into RC planes a few years back. we have so many in the basement. My dad wants to sell for the cheap, so if anyone is interested, pm me and can come and take a look. pretty much no offer will be refused

No it's a 3 channel radio but the model itself has 6 different channels.

That looks pretty cool.

What is the range like on the receiver? My dad bought a cheap plane from RadioShack and you had to stay very close to plane, or else you would lose the signal.

Do you have multiple batteries on hand, so you can swap them out quickly when needed?

Do the planes improve very much, if, say I had $250 to spend compared to the $140 for this plane?

The range on this plane is about 700-800 ft. I fly it to the point where it's hard to see it and it's still controlable.

I haven't looked into many other models but I know for more $ you can buy kits that you build yourself with better parts and stronger motor and batteries.

I bought an extra battery pack so when I go out I take both and can get 20 min out of each. Lots of fun...

With the smaller Spektrum radios and receivers you can can around 3000-5000ft line of sight. There is no way that you'll see the aircraft that far so it's not a limitation.

The best way to get ahead is to buy something that is cheap to repair that has support at the local hobby shop. Buy some extra batteries and fly as much as you can.

QuasarCav, have you heard of the ParkZone T-28 Trogan?

It seems like a step up from the SuperCub, but I'm not sure if it is too much for a 1st time RC'er?!

Know of many R/C airplane trainers in Calgary?

I am just thinking, maybe I should spend a little more initially and buy something I will be happy with for a longer period of time.
