Torque MONSTER!!!! Eat that Civic EX!

Well looking at the RX-8 boards, it was supposed to be a 247hp model
Ive been lookin around at the RX-8 boards and from what I've seen there have been 3 different 247hp* RX-8's dyno'd with the following milage 600, 1000, and 2215 miles respectively. All of which dyno'd between 174-178hp with torque curves all below 130. O and that BLAZING 174 is at 8500rpm, talk about waiting around for nothing. Sounds like the HP overrating on the Miata all over again. o and check it out here also RX8 Forums
There is this Video that was posted on some forum, maybe on racingflix now.

Anyways its by best motoring and they have the RX-8, 250hp WRX, S2000, G35, RSX, and a couple other cars.

And they all pull the Rx-8 in the straits. Thats with the RX-8 coming out of the corner first, so it kinda has the lead on going full throttle first.

Although I dont understand what they say at the end, you can tell they are kinda dissapointed by the outcome of the RX-8. they probably expected more.

Yeah, kinda had a feelin it was gonna be like that.. Really the Hp level is no farther ahead of the last n/a model way back in 1991, the 13b-6port with VDI, the renesis still has the VDI intake of the old motor, but with a single throttle blade, but retains the port shutters..
The side exhaust may kill emissions and noise, but it looks like it hurts power production..
I don't know how Mazda could even be remotely happy with that power level, after having such cars as the Turbo II then the FD and the cosmo sport sedans(20b 3 rotor)...
They reduced port overlap, but that is what really makes a rotary engine breath, its also what makes them turn big numbers at higher rpm, and allows them to spool huge turbo's ..
They would have been farther ahead to just suffer the wieght penalty of a 500 pound catalytic converter, and just bolted a T-78 to the block at the factory...Maxt

A car that can hold it's own against it's greatest predescesor/most celebrated car in Japan (Spirit R RX-7) on a road track with considerably less hp/tq is obviously a piece.

I hope you aren't referring to the video that MAZDA produced and came out with. They are hardly a unbiased source for the true performance of the RX-8....after all they want to sell these things lol.

Take a look at this: http://www.rasterwerks.com/vid/BestM...Part08.avi.zip

Cars on grid in starting position order:
    1. Miata
    2. RX8
    3. Integra Type-R
    4. S2000
    5. G35 (Skyline)
    6. WRX

    Winning order and laptimes:

    1. S2000 - 1.09:03
    2. G35 (Skyline Coupe) - 1.09:70
    3. Impreza WRX - 1.10:21
    4. Integra Type-R - 1.09:79
    5. RX8 1.11:90
    6. Miata Roadster - 1.13:50
