    Default ATF Leak - Suggestions?

So my car is giving me a hard time again. LOL

About two weeks ago the transmission started slipping between neutral and first, first and second, and second and third. And reverse as well. Every gear, basically...

So I checked the ATF levels and sure enough it was bone dry. I added a Litre of ATF to it, and it was fine for a day or two.

That was Sunday, it is Friday today. The transmission has been slipping more and more daily, especially when it's cold outside. It was totally empty of ATF, so it's leaking rather quickly I guess.

What should I check first? Seals/gaskets I take it? Any suggestions?

I'm in college right now, so I'm going to be doing this repair myself haha

    Thanks in advance,

    -Adam

Fix it fast, transmission is probably already significantly damaged.

^^^ Agreed. There is transmission "stop leak" you can try, although I question how effective it is....

Thanks guys, I'm gonna get on it right now... I'll try that stop-leak stuff, but I too wonder how good it actually is...

Can you see any of the fluid under your car? Try keeping it filled as much as possible...1 liter is not enough. Try putting 2.5-3 liters into your transmission and see whether that helps.

I'm guessing the transmission is already too damaged. Time for a new tranny.

I had the same shit happen, I over revved the engine when cold in reverse over ice. Blew ATF straight out. I was told the front seal warped on the tranny.

yup if it has gone that low more then one time there is already transmission damage.

washi it off at a car wash, go for a small drive round the block jack it up and see where it is dripping from

    1993 Toyota Tercel.

Thanks for all the tips, guys... It was the gasket on the ATF pan that was bad. I guess 15 years is a pretty decent lifespan for a cork gasket :P

I replaced it, as well as the ATF filter, and she's running very well and not losing any ATF, so all looks well.

    Thanks
