    Default Tablet Notebook/Tablet PC

So I'm looking into a simple tablet notebook or slate pc

Also to be used as our 2nd computer in the household (gotta beat the wife to get online sometimes ), wifi internet access, bluetooth optional

What are peoples thoughts on both, the notebook or the slate pc? Preferences on either type? manufacturer?

Where in the city can I find something reasonably priced?

Slightly larger, my favorite on-the-go computer:

7" screen, really portable if that's important. Needs external keyboard for proper Internet usage.

I'm using a Toshiba Satellite R20. Awesome Laptop but needs more memory. As for whats available now from Toshiba, it gets a little pricey with the tablet PC's. The Asus seems like a good idea. HP has them too but have a horrible response time and they aren't that accurate IMO.

    Good luck with your search

I picked my tablet up from Gateway, you'll have to go pick it up at the boarder, but in comparison to the other tablets fujitsu, IBM, and toshiba it is student friendly. Mine with 1.66ghz core 2 duo, 2gb ram, dvd, and 80gb hardrive was $1000, 1300 once i added in the student edition.
I like the widescreen and that it is active matrix, a must youll be kicking yourself if you go with passive matrix.
They definately are worth looking at

Really? So are they not worth getting? I want to pick one up for next September because I never use my current laptop. Too big plus I can't take notes with it because diagrams and things like that take too long to make. Futureshop and Bestbuy only carry HP Tablets, so I guess I have to look online.

The best tablets out there seem to be Fujitsu T4220s and IBM X61s. Personally, I'm buying a Lenovo X61 in April.

Also, make sure the model you buy has an active digitizer. Some brands use passive screens that are effectively on/off switches- you're clicking, or you're not. The active digitizers allow you to drag the mouse across the screen with the stylus without clicking, and are pressure-sensitive.

The Fujitsu is available with a higher resolution SXGA+ screen, but the Lenovo is available with a multi-touch WXGA screen. It depends on your priorities. Also, the Lenovo doesn't have an optical drive, but can be ordered with a dock that does. The Fujitsu has one integrated.

No they are not worth it IMO. The one's offered at BB and FS are nice, but they come equipped with the infamous AMD processor. These little guys heat up quick and over time use more battery life then the Core 2 Duo chip set. When I'm using my tablet as a tablet, the only way to make the mouse work or even be able to write on the screen is with the Pen that is supplied. I can't just simply touch the screen and make it write my notes with my finger. The HP tablets use touch technology, which means you can use your fingers to navigate. Try normally writing on a piece of paper, you'll find your hand touching the paper while you write. This interferes when writing anything down on the HP tablets, so you can't have anything else touching the screen except for the plastic stick/pen they provide.

The interactive pen that I use acts like a pencil. soon as I touch the screen the mouse follows, even when hovering and inch over it. when i turn it around to use the 'eraser' it automatically switches the tool and uses the erase tool and vice versa. The only thing i need now is more memory. Right now its at a 1GB with 120GB, running on a 1.66ghx centrino duo processor with XP

try and stick with XP IF you can.

That would be my suggestion as well. I really like the build of Lenovo (IBM) laptops. This guy that sits beside me in class uses one and it looks so damn cool.

Exactly what i posted earlier. OVertime, the issue of it running hot can become a danger to the board. I know this from personal experience as one of my previous laptops did exactly that and then burnt the mother board due to the heat.
