Default Best backed cars?!?! (project car)

Hey, I am looking for some input regarding what the best platforms are for a project car, and has the BEST after market support. I know there are a lot of threads about this but I need some SPECIFIC support.

My budget for the car will be 4 to 6 grand, two door is preferred, hopefully four seater (not really into MR2's), RWD or AWD (prefer RWD), and needs to be turbo/supercharged or easily be able to.

Right now I am sort of thinking a last gen 240 (sorry dont know the chassis code, the one with the SR20) or a MKIV Supra. I know Civics are really well backed but TOO many people do them up, and they are FWD. Also have thought about a RX7 but am a little weary about the reliability of the rotary.

    4-6K including the car?

What about an older Impreza? 99-01?
Older 240sx, older (imported) evo, F-body mustang.

no no just 4-6 for the car, then whatever in parts. I am thinking overall 15/20 will be the build but I dont want something TOO done up because I want it for the actual blood and sweat.

what about an older miata? Or an AE86, no mustangs just dont like the vibe it gives off.

What's the purpose of the car? Time attack? 1/4 mile? Daily driver? Just some random project car?

Like I said, my personal fav would be a 2.5Rs... 99-01 will run 6-9k, AWD, N/A... Lots of potential IMO, but I could be completely wrong.

haha yeah to be honest I don't know. Mostly just a random project car, and probably a quarter mile car.

and no, it will not be a DD although street legal and tolerable would be nice.

I was planning to keep fixing up my 2008 lancer but have to many concerns about fixing up my dd to the extent I want to and on a brand new, under warranty car.

actually the 2.5RS would be king. Just dont seem to be lots of them around.

That's the problem... I would gladly sell my civic and buy a stock or lightly modified 99-01 RS... I just have a hard time tracking one down, and I wouldn't have a car in the meantime, so for me, the best way would be to sell it and then hand the cash over for the RS, or trade it... I'm sure I could get more for selling it then trading it, even in a private sale.

Yeah, I agree they would be pretty sweet. My only reservation is that it is AWD, and I was hoping more for RWD.

Comparing Nissan (240's and 180's) to Supra's or RX's what has the best aftermarket support in town here.

    Rx-7 With an engine swap

A FB will only cost you 1-2grand, build up a nice 350hp+ short block engine for 3-4 grand, and spend $1000 on swap components.

they all have enough suport in town to build a nice one for 20g

but by supra i mean a mk3 not 4 and then they are ugly and fat and heavy.... but if you want a quarter mile car then you can build a lot of power

    s13 240sx= 89-94= pop up headlights
s14 240sx= 95+ and last gen we got in canada, neither came with a sr20det both with a ka24 89-90 was a single cam the rest was dual

both can have a sr20 swaped for under 4g with labor but if you want a new clutch and front mount and whatever else you are up to the 5g mark for the swap.

    your a genius

I mean MKIII, sorry not MIV. I dont really like that year although every ricer seems to.

I have a friend who has a 95 or 96 red 240 and I absolutely love it. Are there a lot of these around? also what is the allure of swapping in a SR20??? I think I would prefer the 240

well support, and the fact that they are boosted from factory and take boost a lot better then a ka

and yeah there is a few around, but they go for over 10k for the most part, and there will be a lot more around in the next few years since all the jdm ones will be legal

you maybe able to find a 95 auto for 6-8g then its just a few things to swap to get it to a 5 speed.

maybe look at getting one from the states

13bt in a miata would make a great car too. if you want to go balls to the wall and can spend close to 20 on just a swap get an fc or rolling chassy fd and get a 20b. Now that is a ballin setup. Some guys in the states running well over 300 some over 400 on daily driven fc swapped with 20b's

just get the car here so it'll be a lhd and not a jdm rhd piece of crap, and then get a front end swap. So if it's anything like teg front end swaps then you'll need fenders, hood, bumper, rad support, sometimes you might need fender liners. I know my buddies who did a swap to jdm teg front ends got fender liners cuz they fit better...thats at least a minimum needed for that front end swap. And well it would go good with a nice rb swap in there if your going to settle for a nissan.

^^^ Thanks, sounds like too much body for me, more wanting to work under the hood.

There are a lot of 180's for sale? I am going to assume that you cant swap a SR20 into that can you?

but do you really want to pay over 7000 grand for an old piece of crap that couldn't sell over there so someone shipped it out here??? And seriously a 240 with a clean front end swap is so hot. And shouldn't be too hard to find one with all the imported cars out here I'm sure some young idiots have crashed at least a few with salvageable front ends still on there. with 4000 to 6000 for the car and the budget your saying for mods, you could have a really clean engine and front end swapped 240, and not have to settle for a rhd piece of crap. If your going to drive a rhd car just get someone to import you a cosmo and enjoy 20b twin turbo goodness at least it'll blow the doors off alot of cars.
