Help ASAP: External Sources in English Essay

Hey guys,

I have an essay due tommorrow, and it says it requires two external sources. The essay is comparing and contrasting two characters in "Their Eyes Were Watching God." With something like a science paper it makes total sense why you would need an external source, but I don't get what you would need one for in an English paper. Am I somehow supposed to compare it to other books?

they should just ask for a certain amount of examples from the book and thats it

where do you go to school? lol

i would just find some source online like some1 else's good point (which reinforces your arguments) and cite that.
