Default Anyone here who has taken ENGG209

I'm going on internship starting in May, and am trying to get a few remaining courses out of the way to free up some time in fourth year.

ENGG209 is taught in the summer, but not online. I'm just wondering if anyone here who has taken it (preferrably in the summer) can comment on this course. The prof is Schlenker, as I believe has been for quite some time...

    Specifically, what I'm wondering, is:

    1) Are assignments and quizzes done online?

    2) Are any notes posted?

    3) Is the final still the same from year to year (hah)?

Since I will be working, I won't be able to attend lectures. So if notes are posted, and assignments online, I should be able to power through this course after work. However, if I need to go to lectures/tutorials then this course is not an option.

    Thanks

I took it last year in the winter session.
Nothing was done online, the only thing online were the notes for the first section of the course along with practice quizzes. The quizzes were mostly the same as the ones he had posted to practice but once he had created something completely different that caught everyone off guard.
I cannot remember the final, but I am pretty sure it was similar to other years as he always talked about how he hated writing new tests and quizzes. The quizzes were in the tutorials and the lecture notes were often very useful and he had good examples so this might not be a great course choice for you from what you have said.

I took the course some 5 years ago, also with Schlenker (but who doesn't anyway?), and from what I recall, he never changes his notes, EVER! Apparently, they've been EXACTLY the same since the early 90s. So if you can get copies off someone's old notes, you're fine. And if I recall, they used to have 2 classes for this, one during the morning, and one in the evening (~7pm). So maybe consider that as an option?

^ Yep, thats exactly the same thing right now. I managed to snag a set of notes from 05 and they haven't changed really at all. In fact some areas are less (I think schlenker is getting lazy ) All of the old quizzes are on blackboard and do not change all that much. You can just study them along with notes and be golden.

I am in the night class (5-615)pm and there are a ton of older engineers taking it along with the rest of us as I think it is a requirement for APEGA?

So you might consider taking it during the year at night if you can't find a suitable spring/summer one to take.

Yeah, make sure to pick up some old sets of finals from the bound and copied (he didn't make any available on blackboard when i took it in F2007.)

He really doesn't vary his questions that much, (he said one year he tried something different and it took forever to mark it. He's lazy.) It's all the same type of questions over and over.
Also, on the last day of class, he went over the Summer2007 final in full detail, writing out full solutions and telling us exactly what he'll be looking for.

I would not do this. During my midterm (Fall 07) they actually checked the calculators and I saw a few guys escorted out in the first couple minutes.

Honestly there is not that much to memorize that you have to cheat for a course like this.

You have to use the Ghetto Schulich calculator now...It's a Casio FX Solar piece of shit scientific calculator you buy from the ESS.
ALL classes where you use a calculator for 1st and 2nd year require it, in order to "level the playing field."

Last year, when the TA came by with the sign in sheet during the exam, he actually picked up my calculator off of my desk and examined it in his hands to make sure it was the correct, "Schulich approved" calculator and not something else.

Yep don't do this, Schlenker is known for tearing people a new one for breaking rules. He's made people cry in the past. Old notes, some studying and you're solid!
