Now there's some confusion when people get billed for their package from UPS. Most people see this page: http://www.ups.com/content/ca/en/shi...clearance.html
and look at the chart and think "hey my package is worth $205, so my fee will be $40 at the door".
Well as in a previous post of mine I was wanting to get UPS to hold my package at the station. I went to the station itself today and asked if they could hold it for pickup when the truck came back in. The person said I'd have to call the 1800 number. Okay so I did, and got it held for tomorrow. But anyways got the lady to break down the brokerage fee for me, here it goes:
My package is worth: $215
$40.30 - For the brokerage SERVICE fee from UPS
+$5.85 - Bond fee (it's 2.7% of your package value, min of $5.85. This is a fee for UPS paying Canada Customs your taxes in advance so they can import your package)
+$4.25 - For Collect on Delivery (They charge you for paying your UPS fees?????)
+ $12 or so in the ACTUAL 5% GST on my item.
For a total of $63 some dollars
Well there you have it... That's how your charges are broken down when you get Brown knocking on your door the next time demanding a ridiculus fee for your package.
VS USPS/Canada post which is $5 service fee + GST on your item value
