Default Looking for High Amp output 120v to 12v car adapter

I'm trying to find an adapter that you can plug into the wall and then plug in a cigarette lighter powered electronics....
But all of the ones I have found have a very low amp output. Found one on dealextreme but it has a max output of 12v 550mA, great for charging cell phones and other small electronics.
But I want to run a radio out of the truck while stationed in a building. And 550mA is not near enough juice to keep it going.

Just wondering if anyone knows of an adapter that is smaller then an entire battery charger.
Otherwise... I will have to get a battery charger to run everything outside of the truck.
I'll try being nicer if you try being smarter.

I didn't even know these existed.

Why dont you just use a battery charger?

Chargers aren't designed to have good load regulation Most 12V battery chargers don't do much more than rectify the AC line.
And to clean this up I would have to throw a 12V battery in line.
Plus a solid regulated power supply is cheaper then a cheap ass battery charger.
I would have to be carful as a good charger may not like the fact there is something other then a battery being used.
And a cheap one would have to be put on a fast charge as trickle is very low amperage. And if its really that cheap a fast charge for a long period of time with a battery in line would cause a few bubbles...

Regulated power supply means I don't have to think about any of this. And still be able to power a high power radio indoors. Along with other items, and not have a charger cranked all the time.

Computer power supply would work, but after finding this. It costs nearly the same as a cheap ass computer power supply and I do not have to mess around with installing a cigarette adapter onto the wires of a power supply.
And the 13.4 volts is closer to an actual vehicle then a 12v computer supply.

Also if I mention I want to use it at a voltage source to power other 12v items including motors. A computer power supply does not like to run inductive loads.

So you mention that you want a regulated power supply that will be reliable and have enough jam for "motors" but your willing to buy something made by Pyramid?

    I dont understand?

I have used a battery charger sans battery to test amps and run CD players and it works fine. For i higher current application adding a battery would be just dandy.

If you would give us a better idea of what your trying to do then maybe i would understand what would fit your needs. But judging from the info so far you are running high power sensitive equipment.....something i would NOT attach to ANYTHING pyramid.

And a battery not being charged has a voltage of ~12V not 14.4V as some people think. Its the alternator that supplies that.

Primary use will be carried in a truck and then used inside in various locations to power a radio.

Outside of that it will be used on a test bench to power anything 12v and small 12v water pumps.

I am unfamiliar with pyramid electronic equipment.

It's total junk, all of it. Pyramid stuff just belongs in the garbage.

I've done this many times with computer power supplies. Super clean well regulated power and they're cheap as dirt.

Just google the pins to bridge to switch the supply on (on mine it's green and black from the ATX connector) and you've got a +12,+5,+3.3,-5,-12V power supply. I use mine for all sorts of electronics development, but it's rated 25A on the 12V rail so it does well for testing car amps and related equipment as well.
