EGR cutoff, on 87 celica

I have a question, can you cut and block off the EGR pipe, because it routes hot exhaust air into the intake mani, would it give more HP? would it wreck the engine? and can you put those air breathers on it on the EGR pipe after its cut off (going to intake manifold).........thanks!

you dont CUT the EGR...you disconect it and you block the holes...The hot exhaust gases don't really hurt performance, but they bring in all the exhaust junk and when you get sick deposits on your intake manifold and on your valves that's why. The reason it's there is to reduce emissions...you don't have to remove it...you won't notice any difference

thanks for the info, i wont CUT THE EGR then, so yeah if u wont feel any diff then theres no point in doing it then.....thanks!

the difference it DOES make is that your intake manifold, your throttle plate and your intake valves stay nice and clean...and EGR block off kit will cost you $30-$50, or you can make it yourself, or you can just pay $10 every now and then and get a spray to clean SOME of that junk out...

Remove your EGR and you will have other problems it is not just there for emmissions but the factory tuners use it to supress detonation.

Yup. The EGR dilutes the intake charge, removing it will mean a leaner charge.
