    Default RB25det dressed up as a Rb20det

to start things off i know this is way out to left field but here is the story. My friend and i both have skyline GTS-T's. my buddies is in perfect condition with motor modifications to his RB20det such as 3"turbo back exhaust, Greddy front mount, tuned ecu, boost controller( run 11 psi on stock turbo). now my skyline looks to be stock other than the 3"turbo back. a little history on my car is that i imported it into canada and you can definitly tell the car has been raced hard with it having decals cover the outside of the car and the typical signs of it being baged.

so one day we decided to race just so see how much faster my buddies skyline is over mine(because oviously his has more mods than mine) but my skyline significantly beat his skyline. in dis belief we raced again to have the same result. we even switched cars to see if it was driver error but still nothing. so we oviously thought something was up with my friends car so looked over everything. compression test, looked for boost leaks, changed the oil, we even took it to shop to get inspected and his car pasted with flying colors. so then we started thinking about my car....... and we thought the only way my skyline could have beat his is A) upgraded to a RB25DET turbo or B) i actually have a RB25DET that looks like a RB20DET. now i want to hear your thoughts do you think a RB25det can look like a RB20det? or could it be something else?

    uhhh....

    For serious?

There are some obvious differences between an RB25 and a RM20, the most obvious being the "RB25" on the engine

i highly doubt your car has an rb25 who the hell would swap and just leave the old plug cover?(who knows if they are even interchangeable), 25s have a hump next to the CAS, 20s say 'RB20' in that location.

did you check to see if your boost gauge is reading more than stock?

maybe your friend's clutch is slipping

YA i know its a crazy idea but who knows right the previous owner could have stole the motor and used the rb20 cover so no one would know.. i'm currently running 11 pounds of boost or 0.8 Kpg.

no.. like i said the tbelt cover is not interchangeable, RB25 has a hump next to the CAS, and RB20 say 'RB20' there, you know where your cam angle sensor is right?..

slipping clutch, dunno, i can't believe people never look at their own engine? to notice leaks/stuff to fix and just the overall condition, everytime i do an oil change/brakes little crap on my own car(s)/friends cars i like to look around see if there is anything that needs attention etc

Shouldnt these engines have a serial number on them that you can find on both and compare?

Every car is slightly different among the same model/year.

    Could be clutch

This could mean I have an RB26 in my gts-4?!?!?!

    Haha jk.

That does sound weird though, so your car appears stock + cat-back exhaust, and his has a few more mods than yours, but you tend to rape him? Thats odd. But hard to believe you got an rb25 disguised as a rb20. Are they both type-m?

    ^ , never seen it
OP post a picture of your engine(and car too if you want) and you can eliminate:
    "i actually have a RB25DET that looks like a RB20DET"

i'm amazed at people who buy JDM cars and know jack about their cars/whats in them, it would be in your best interest to learn something about them and do basic diagnostics yourself on a 15+ year old car that wasnt even sold here.

did anyone think of the timing? is his friends car has the timing turned too far back, its gonna be completely sucked out. or perhaps internal mods? just because you cant see the difference doesnt mean its not there. and come on, if this car had actually been raced, do you think the previous owner would have left it stock? he wouldnt do to damn well against all the crazy tuned cars that he would be running against....

They are old cars, and motors wear out differently over time

well its not that i dont know my stuff about my car, its the fact that we cant't figure out why his car is so slow or mine is so fast. and ya its propably HIGHLY unlikely that it is an RB25DET but i thought maybe the guy put in a RB25det turbo onto the RB20det. i know the rb25 turbos are a little bit thicker as well as some other differences. but i'll get the serial numbers and check it out

He probably has a miss kitty air freshener stuck under the pedal. Tell him to check.
