my 'office' job entails never working more than 40 hours a week, super flexible coworkers in regards to time off and taking time for appts during work, a boss who is very empowering to us, and only gets involved our business when we ask him too (also helps that he is based in a US satellite office) but he's super cool nonetheless. Zero blocked sites on our computers, so youtube, facebook, gmail, beyond, etc are open all the time.

there's always food in our office, no dress code, lots of people can work flex time, some even work form home if they don't want to come in.....

I pretty much won the office lottery - but there are trade offs.... money is good but not great compared to O&G or finance, and the work isn't super challenging for the most part, but all in all, I can't see myself getting sick of this gig anytime soon.

If you're looking for a new job - check out Calgary's Top employers first.... if you're going to spend most of your time doing one thing, you may as well enjoy it.

f'ing office work sucks here too. It's all office politics and who can stroke eache others cock faster, except it's the grunts down below that have to actually get there hands dirty. Normally in an organisation it's like a pyramid, you got the chief on top and then a few more directs and managers under that until you get to the bottom of the pyramid where you have a large number of worker bees. Here the pyramid is kinda fat in the middle and skinny at the base. Bosses/management tell you rules and policies don't do this, don't do that and when someone asks for one of things and you tell them sorry we can't do that policy, they go cry to their manager and the bitching goes up the chain on one side then comes back down our side to land on our head and then we gotta go do it anyway. All because they stick IT under finance department because IT "costs" the company money. We don't contribute or take part in "making" the company money. Fuck yeah, go sell some shit without your computer, e-mail and blackberry you sales bitch! Go make some plans to build your stupid building engineer without your computer! BACK TO PAD AND PENCIL FOR ALL OF YOU!!!!

I feel a little, tiny bit better now.....
I'm a gonna take me an old laptop and smash the shit out of it I think....... maybe even take some pix yeah!

About a month ago i swore to myself that after im done at this job in a few weeks im never working in an office again. Its actually depressing how shitty these peoples lives are and how big of a deal they make about things that have no fucking importance at all.

My job is exactly like office space... right down to the constant paper jams and the annoying woman sitting ten feet away from me repeating the same thing a hundred times a day.

At least you guys get to de-stress when you come home from work. I'm in university now, and the constant pressure ain't fun.

I worked in an office for a year before university, and there was a TON of drama. People looking for any opportunity to stab you in the back. But that's what made it exciting. And when I went home, work was the last thing on my mind.

My office job isn't so bad, well co-worker wise anyway. I sit around people who are mostly my age and they're pretty cool to talk to.

But the managers are another story, they're pretty uptight.

I occupy myself by going on Beyond when I'm not getting any calls or I use this instant messenger that we have to talk to people.

i love my job. super fun people to work with, Bosses that have their own life's and quite empowering.

What happens here is that you have stuff that your suppose to do, if you dont have it done thats your fault you got to do what your suppose to do to get it done.

    benefits, perks, i love them.

I've been in university five years now, and the eight months a year of constantly having school on your mind is very wearing. At least with most jobs, when you go home, work is off your mind. But with school, you're never really free of it.

I can't complain about my office though, work that is challenging, but not stressful, full web access, flexible if I need time off, great co-workers, very understanding managers and I'm left alone to do my work. But most importantly, a fridge stocked with pop & juice for the taking and Starbucks coffee in the coffee pot with the occasional catered lunch. It seems for a lot of people it isn't so much the office as the co-workers.

WOW! I feel for you office workers that hate your job!!

Where I work, things are the shit!!

Choose your own hours (within reason) Theme parties every couple of months,( all booze paid for with a free cab ride home) extra long drunken lunch hours on patios. (sometimes paid for by management.) great Stampede and Christmas parties. Time off is no issue. VERY social setting. Fruits, snack food, and beverages provided. Golf tournaments. For the most part, sexual harrasment does not exist here!

I love coming to work!!! being on 17th ave SW is extremely beneficial to the common drunken nature here!!

When this company first started out, all porn had to be ok'd by the president. If he found out some circulated without his viewing, he would get upset. We have grown enough in size that it is no longer warranted, but still.....this place ROCKS!!!

This job used to rock. I loved it, working on multiprojects. I always had two or three things going, all different, all moving forward, and I was actually involved. Got to go out to the field a bunch to do field-fit piping design.

Then, a year ago, they transferred me to this new project. I lost my big cubicle and got moved to a small beige one. I fight with this stupid software all day. On top of that, it's like I'm the drunk chick at a party and everybody just shrugs me off.

I can't wait to go back to school. Two months...

My boss works 7am til 9pm almost everyday... and she expects the same from me. The OT isn't bad, but I'm so over it after a couple years of workin 10/12 hour days. They expect me to stay, and come in on the weekends, but i've stopped doing it. The head 3 people are ALWAYS here, and expect that just cause they don't have lives, that everyone else doesn't either.
I work to live, not live to work.

gotta say I like my office job, great management, no dress code, everyone is treated as an equal, very flexible, good benefits, beer every friday afternoon paid for by our manager, was able to take a class while working, foos ball table in the break room which is great. Pretty much we work hard, but play hard and as long as we are accountable for what we need to get done, thats all that matters. Its all about corporate culture and coworkers which can make a good work environment, office or not. I feel for you guys who gotta deal with the whole office politics, fixed policies, narrow minded management who also feel compelled to act like a babysitter, pretty much the old status quo. Its all about finding the right environment, I really lucked out with this job, but I feel for you guys, just remember nothing is forever, hang in there
