You're not going to get much for $300. Our company paid a professional (not a basement run) web design company to do some work, and if I remember right, pricing was in the $200/hr range.

Yeah I agree.
For $300 all you'll be able to get is something that well, looks like $300 (either very simple - just a few pictures and maybe 3 or 4 pages, or looks like a 12 year old did it).
Any talented web designer will probably be charging at the MINIMUM of $75/hr. $200 is pretty up there, but they must be really good.
