Default My Jeep Stolen and recovered within hours this morning

This morning at 6:15am I drove down to the Summerset/Bridlewood C-Train station and parked on the East side of the train tracks in the parking lot.

At 1:00pm I was at my desk downtown and I received a call from a police officer telling me that 2 eyewitnesses had seen 2 people breaking into my jeep, they called the cops (thanks!), and the police had apprehended the thieves in my jeep somewhere along 22X heading East over the river.

All I know now is that the column is messed up. The police officer told me they were towing it to the impound lot and I could go get it later and see if I could start it with my key.

My Dad didn't know any of this was happening and was driving around when he saw what appear to be my jeep being towed down the road by a tow truck, haha.

I called my insurance company (CRS insurance/ING). They were great. I only have the minimum coverage on this vehicle and they are taking care of having the jeep towed from the impound to a body shop to have an estimate done whatever damage there is. I also get a rental car for free from Enterprise for however long I need it. Enterprise picked me up from work too. Thanks CRS. I guess paying $15,000 in insurance gets me something.

I don't know why the thieves would take my jeep, it's a pos and does not look as good now as in the pics, when I paid $3k for it a few years ago. Maybe it's just easy to break into. All I had inside was a sweater and my old Sirius receiver.

It's appaling how it seems to be a free for all at the parking lots to the LRT. The city needs to step up.

Im glad to hear you got your jeep back. The situation with the park n ride kind of sucks. I always hear stories of people getting their cars broken into/jacked and Ive even seen a whole row of cars with their windows smashed. Wish there were more cameras around.

cameras dont help... what's aca,era give you? a picture... and without people to look at that picture and identify the person, you've got nothing, so unless you can get the media to listen, all you've got is a picture of a vandal... doesn't do you much good.

No, but it does act as a deterrent to some of the more idiotic and less self-confident theives. As for the rest, well, it's been said before; if they really want your car, they'll eventually get it or ruin it in the process.

A friend of mine had her Jeep stolen twice in 3 months from the Brentwood station....they are extremely easy to get into and start.

Glad to hear you got it back, hope the damage is minimal!

Oh, and ING+Enterprise= I have been driving free rentals for 4.5 months now. (Although if my car had been properly assessed I would be driving a new car but that's another story)

Most easy to steal vehicles are stolen just for transportation, not to part out or anything.

A neighbors kid stole another neighbors truck so he could drive to Lethbridge to attend his court appearance... for auto theft

I think people also steal jeeps because they are fun to drive and want to go joy riding off-road. They think 4x4 means you can drive anywhere. To the OP, its good to hear a good story for once, and the system actually working.

The $15k is an estimate of what I've paid CRS Insurance over 10 years having never been in an accident or made a claim. I don't even own $15k worth of vehicles, haha.

    Hey,
Same thing happened to me last summer with my jeep.
someone stole it right from my underground parking. My brother saw it drive by thinking it was me and noticed it a block away. When my brother came inside he thought i let someone borrow the jeep.... we ran to where he saw it drive to and we found it. Called the cops but they didn't want to do anything about it. After that i made the whole "fuck the NE" thread...

Anyways yeah why would someone want to steal a vehicle thats worth about 3-5K?

I found out the mechanic shop that can next look at my jeep doesn't have room until mid June, so I guess I'll drive this rental a while longer

Because it's fucking cake to steal from LRT. Think about it. People who use park and ride on a weekday are doing what? They're going to work probably. So that means they're going to be away for 8+ hours. And after 10am, there's rarely anyone in the parking lot because it's full of cars who's drivers won't be back for that same time frame.

It's like parking at school which is where my car got stolen. If you park at the University, MRC, SAIT, etc. They know you'll be gone for at least an hour, plus however long it would take you go walk, plus anytime you decide to hang around the school.

Try stepping up security but that's probably not going to do much unless you assign security/police to every single lot for every hour of the day, which gets mighty expensive. And like Thaco said, camera's are reasonably useless because, unless someone can identify them and was actually there, all you have at the end of the day is a blurry picture of some dude taken from about 25-30 feet in the air, 50 feet from the camera.
