Default Dove Soap isn't too clean

Don't you just love when a big corporation tries to seduce consumers into thinking that it is socially conscious so that hopefully those consumers then purchase that company's products? Well, Dove is the latest company to shoot itself in the foot.

Unilever, the company behind products like Dove soap, is driving forest destruction and speeding up climate change by buying palm oil from companies which are destroying Indonesia's rainforests to make way for palm oil plantations. By their own admission, Unilever is the biggest single user of palm oil in the world.

Unilever pretends to be an environmentally responsible company, but what it is actually responsible for is destroying areas of rainforest, driving species extinction and speeding up global warming. Being one of the biggest users of palm oil on the planet, Unilever must stop buying palm oil from these companies and call for a halt on the destruction of Indonesian forests to grow palm oil.
Check out the video and send an open letter to Dove asking them to stop destroying the forests of Indonesia.

If it wasn't being cleared for palm oil they'd just grow something else.

^^ Agreed. They're chopping down trees to grow more trees. These bleeding hearts sound a little too hippy tree huggerish to me.

Well there's a big difference between the rainforest and planting palm trees designed for harvest. Even the boreal forest is able to be chopped down and replanted because it can replace itself in a fraction of the time and is home to a fraction of the biodiversity. It takes centuries for a rainforst to regrow and by then everything which calls it a habitat will be long gone.

You don't seriously think a big field of palm trees is the same thing as a natural rainforest supporting local flora and fauna?

They might care for a bit, then they'll see just how soft and silky their skin is and be off in another world.

What I'm saying is they will be clearing the rainforest for agriculture regardless of what crop they grow. Dove is just a convenient scapegoat right now. It could be corn or sugarcane for ethanol for all I care. The rainforest is getting levelled anyway.

No, but for the record, the original poster left out a lot of details that might be needed to make this report more acurate. I also don't use dove, so I'm not defending the company or anything, I just think one little snippit of "OMG this company buys supplies from people who cut down the rainforest, boycot them because I said so" seems a little too tree hugger to me.

Good example. Now if we could all follow TKRIS' example and take it to the next level and not shower or bath at all, we'd be taking a step in the right direction......hot water requires gas and electricity which we all know eats up resources.
