Maybe a fresh new group, might help "Inspire"
them to be a little more creative and budget
    friendly.

I actually welcome this. The current planning hasn't been great.

I mean come on. Look at Westhills. Who in their right mind would design that?

I read somewhere on the city website that Cloverleaf intersections take up too much land. Have you seen the Highway 1 (16 ave) and Stony trail interchange? Who planned that to save land?

There are so many other examples of poor planning. Crowchild? Yeah, lets expand everything in the NW to 3 lanes, but just leave the bottle neck by the University/Kensington/Bow River alone. Going Northbound, there is only 1, yes 1 lane that actually goes straight through over the bridge. Why hasn't that been fixed... lol

    ^^^ LOL no doubt...

Westhills /Cougar ridge / New Discovery / Coach Hill / Strathcona all have horrrrriible planning! So many people are living up here and the roads cant handle that much traffic .. its so sad. Its also pathetic that some new communities up here have 1 exit out of the community!

i'm happy to see this... the current planner are obviously a big pile of FAIL, fresh new ideas will be welcomed by me.

Above mentioned was crowchild, that is such garbage, ohh lets get off in the offramp 4 BLOCKS before our actual turn off, that is so stupid... and they're doing the same crap with macleod/glenmore/elbow/14th by the looks of things.

And i DONT CARE how much space cloverleafs take up, THEY FUCKING WORK!! unlike this bullshit of having to go through 3 sets of lights on overpasses to get off a major road.

To me it's like the Leafs losing JFJ. Things can only get better. Kind of getting tired of relatively new roads being ripped up because they were designed for yesterday's traffic.

    As for the senior planners that left, good luck finding work if Calgary is your job reference. I can just hear the interview now;

HR: "So you were involved in major roadways in Calgary?"
    Applicant: "Absolutely!"
    HR: "Deerfoot Trail?"
    Applicant: "Absolutely!"
HR crossing lines on his/her sheet: "What else?"
Applicant: "Beddington Trail/Country Hills I'm particularily proud of."
HR: "Wasn't that a major connection from Deerfoot Trail West which cost millions and lasted all but seven years before getting torn up again and still under construction as we speak."
Applicant: "Well it was nice for seven years and hopefully when finished it will be able to handle population projections for the new millenium."
HR: "But it's 2008 now......You know what?.... Thanks for cominig in. We'll get back to you in a couple of weeks."

I think there's an equal chance of the new planners being worse than the current ones.

If the guys who have done it for this many years couldn't get it right. What about the guys without the know how?

I don't get that interchange at all. Isn't that going to be the future ring road? I don't see how it can connect straight to the future ring road without tearing the whole thing apart.

Unless they move McMahon stadium, or close off roads permanently, there's no way they can make that final set of lights go away. There's not enough room there (or the other lights) without tearing shit down, and I'm assuming Mcmahon is the big factor why it's left alone.

I question that everyday lol. I think about how it can be fixed, there's no easy way. Will need relocation of power towers there for widening, rebuild of the memorial bridge that goes over crowchild to widen to more lanes (the base pillars only allow for 2 lanes each way).

I figure the easiest solution to that whole section... build a new "upper crowchild trail" bridge on top of everything that starts before the bow trail turnoff to downtown, goes straight all the way until it passes the last set of lights, and merge back with existing crowchild before the c-train comes back up to street level.

But of course we'll get sued by home and business owners on "lower crowchild drive" because that area under a bridge is sure to turn pretty ghetto.

I'd rather take the risk that the new blood may improve things than enduring the same failures year after year. They failed simple as that and it's time to move on.

Between this and "oh god taxes!!!", these are actually the 2 biggest problems for planning, moreso than incompetence on the planners part. I'm not saying they're brilliant, but a lot of problems end up being explained by "we can't spend the money" or "somebody is complaining"

I don't have a problem with that. Less exits reduces congestion on the main road, and the goal is to speed up traffic on the main road.

It's happening on Nose hill drive too. Instead of going straight to the "shortcut" where Ricky's and Crowfoot Honda is to get home, I'll have to turn off on Nose Hill, and go through 2 sets of lights to get to that shortcut. I'll lose a bit of time there, but more than happy with the time I save due to less stops on Crowchild.

Just remember to vote for me for Mayor in a few years. We'll suffer a little on taxes, but boy will we have the sickest roads with the most awesomest corners and challenging apexes!

Memorial Dr to and from Deerfoot is stupidity at its best. The C-Train tracks when entering Memorial East from SB Deerfoot is ALWAYS an adventure, not to mention the Deerfoot North exit lane from EB Memorial. It still puzzles me why there isn't a NB Deerfoot exit from Beddington Tr along with an entrance from SB Deerfoot.

    Good Riddance, I say.

Bribed by Deerfoot mall. Forces people to take 64th and turn around. How else do you think people know about Deerfoot Mall?

That's ingenious marketing... all roads lead to my store.

I dunno but the one exit out of areas thing is supposed to have been planned that way. We did some landscaping for some new neighborhoods out in the NW and we commented on that at which point our foreman told us it was to make it easier for cops to find someone if they were to run into said area. Dunno if there is any truth to this but seems like it could make things easier by blocking off one entrance/exit than some areas like sundance who have like 5 ways of getting in and out.

    Wouldn't it be Silvercity?

They force everyone on the fuck up that is country hill blvd (now that is a planning mistake) to hit Deerfoot north to go to Airdrie/Edmonton.

We're running out of land, but god damn it, there's a lot of sky. We need some hot wheels type roads!
