Default 1998 civic stereo removal help needed, please

    Hi guys,

Just bought a 1998 civic with the am/fm radio in the dash and the cassette player in the bottom.

ANy tips on how to remove both the radio and the cassette player?? I am a novice at stereo installs.

ALso, my friend gave me his Honda cd player out of his 2000 Civic SIR. I know the wiring for the deck should be the same, but will this cd player fit perfectly into the dash of my car, as the center dashboards layouts are different from the 1998 civics to the 2000 civics.

    Thanks

Go to Crappy tire or the Library and get a Haynes Civic guide. Tells you everything and how to take the whole car apart...

I've taken apart the center console several times, but that was a while ago. Basically, the radio/cd player is bolted to a metal "frame" (for a lack of a better word) that has to be removed from the center console. To remove the frame, you have to get underneath the console to unbolt that from the bracket. The first couple times I did it, I removed the whole bottom half of the dash, but I think that might've been unecessary, now that I think of it. You might be ble to get at it just by removing the buttom half of the center console.

Once the metal framing has been unbolted from the brackets, just unclip the wiring and slide it out the whole unit. From there, you should be able to figure out how to replace the radio/cd player.

My description might be a little iffy, but once you get under there, you should see what I'm talking about. Good luck and let me know if you got any more questions!

    thanks for the input guys,

I am kinda concerned about being able to pull out the cassette player which is seperate from the radio. It's at the bottom of the dash, just above the cub holders.

I pick up the car tommorow, so I will start hacking away at it.

Do you guys think that the honda cd player my buddy gave to me out of his 2000 SIR will fit perfectly where the old radio goes??

    Thanks

Dunno about this. Not sure what this looks like.

I don't see why it wouldn't. All Honda's should share the same wiring. I know the Integras, Accords, and Civics did for sure. I'm sure the new deck would fit, but I could be wrong.

I think the deck will wire up ok, but I am not sure if the "footprint"size of the two decks will be the same. The current radio deck looks a little odd shaped, but I will have to confirm it when Iget the car tommorow.

    Thanks

Damn, even better! I guess it was necessary to remove the bottom half of the whole dash
