    Default Painting Brake Calipers

Anyone has done this? How long does it take? What do you guy think about it?

I am consider painting my Lexus brake Calipers red then putting "Lexus" labels on them. The paint will be:

    Dupli-Color Blue Caliper Paint Kit

It will be too pricey at a shop... probably $100 per caliper.

If you do it properly, it would turn out pretty good. I've done it with the Dupli-Color brand with no chipping or fading issues. As for the "LEXUS" lettering, I don't know - that's a hit and miss as well. If its sanded, cleaned and painted with a brush, it should turn out fine.

i did it and it turned out fine. the only thing is when I did my springs I chipped them a bit so I better fix it.

The duplicolor kits from Crappy tire work well. The only thing is that you really need to take your time taping it off. Or just take the caliper off but then you have to bleed the brakes

Not sure. It was awhile ago. IIRC I did a coat or two every 30 minutes until I was satisfied with it. Give yourself several hours of your time to do this. Don't rush it.

Use the brush-on paint, I've done the spray stuff before and it didn't turn out too well. Those kits should come with brake cleaner. Clean it first, then sand it, then clean it again. And mask off the areas that you don't want painted properly. Everything should be in that kit, except the sand paper.

What colors did you guys used? I planned on using red with the Dupli-Color Blue Caliper Paint Kit. If red.. how did the red turns out... is it a bright red or dark or faded red? Black is popular but my car is already black.

I painted my calipers red on my old mazda and it turned out great. Its been at least 2 years and they still havent flaked or faded. Just make sure you take your time prepping them. The more sanding you do the better they will turn out.

Painting your calipers is pretty easy to do but like all paint jobs, it's the preparation that will make or break your final results.

The Duplicolor kit at Cdn Tire is pretty popular but do yourself a favor and get yourself a real paintbrush.

Here's a good writeup on painting calipers for a C5. It'll give you an idea of what's involved... even if it's for a different car.

I think it's a waste of time and money. It lowers resale on your car and makes it look cheap.

To do it properly, it takes a while because you have to pull the calipers off and paint them. It takes a few coats to get it looking decent too.

I say save your money and your time.
