Default Oil and Gas lobby alive and well...

It is pretty sick seeing how much sway the oil and gas industry has in the government. First we spend 25 million on trying to convince people that the tar sands are "clean oil" then we have our redneck premier saying that wind turbines kill 30,000 birds annually. This is absolutely ridiculous I mean how transparent can our government get? The reaction isn't whoops we killed 500 birds lets fix the problem. Nope instead we lash out at any other industry that is not oil and gas.

PS: That's 30,000 birds annually world wide. There are ~28000 wind turbines in operation so we are looking at one bird running into a turbine a year... Building comparatively kill more birds a year due to collisions than turbines.

What I got from your post is that more birds are killed by alternative energy then oil.

can't say i disagree, but *waits for "if you don't like it, fucking leave" freshly moved to alberta attitude*

born and raised albertan here and since I moved back from BC it makes me sad to see the changes.

There goes my dream of retiring somewhere in alberta with a ranch, it will all be hazardous with either the pipelines, sourgas wells, or an oil company will just own a quarter section close to mine.

    Cos...

This is in fact true... Migrating birds are attracted to the lights reflecting off of the glass on tall towers etc and crash into them on a regular basis. I watched a show on it a few years back... There was a big push on to make high-rise buildings kill their lights at night etc and some companies are designing specific bird friendly buildings. Just in toronto alone it is something like 10,000 birds a year die this way, let alone combining every other city...

Not saying I'm in favor or opposed to our government, but I do find it very funny the amount of people that bash the current and past governments, yet moved here for the jobs and opportunities it provided. And then once they get what they've come for, prospered financially where they would have otherwise been stagnant, they try and force change on everyone, and scream about how bad it is.

Simple fact is that if you moved to Alberta because of the opportunities it has over where you're from, you are supporting the stuff that goes on "behind the curtain".

"Oil and Gas is sooooo evil!!!!!"

"No, I'm not willing to give up my job and large pay increase driven by it".

Just an outside prospective of what seems to be becoming a largely left wing forum over the past couple years.

"Disagreeing with what they do but eat the bread it buys."

As I said I was born and raised here, some of us has family and history to keep us and it isn't easy moving. Hence why I moved back from BC after being away from my family.

Lets just say I have never voted for the alberta conservatives, so I dont condone it
