Yup, had to ban them all a little while back. $100 that it's Jimmy @ A&A pulling it...he's that immature.

Not the best donair, but it is certainly nice and convenient.

I am trying to find this spot on Google street view without success. Can anyone name some business that is beside?

Address is 47 High Street SE but i cant seem to see it.

    Help is appreciated, i'm starving.

UPDATE: This place is easy to find and it HAS TO BE top three donairs i have had in Calgary. Ran me $11 and some change for a super donair and a bottled Nestea. Great flavor and lots of meat

    wow, 1 year anniversary bump!

i've been eating lots of donairs and schwarmas over the last year, and have to say that right now, my top choices are:

donair: Jimmy's A&A. vastly improved in the last year and a half. they've seemed to get rid of all the immature, food-throwing (etc.) workers, and they've only screwed up my order once in about the last year or so. (it was the day that it was just the white guy and some white chick working, and they were kinda fucking around, etc.)

schwarma: Tazza and Village Pita. both are EXCELLENT, although each makes a quite different schwarma. i would have to say i prefer tazza, since I really like how fresh and prevalent their veggies/herbs are, but village pita is most excellent as well.

there are also lots of so-so places, and a couple of particular sucky places. first that comes to mind is Uncle Moe's. http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?threadid=285843. enough said. Also, My Donair. maybe it's just the location i go to, but the meat is bland and with a VERY weird texture, AND they charge $0.50 extra for things like pickles and banana peppers. whatever.

Mmmm one of my favorite foods

I still prefer shwarma king over on edmonton trail by 8th ave? (9th?) NE. Sunshine sauce FTW! Watch out for his attempts to get ya to try his hot sauce... You'll need at least a gallon of milk if you try it

My donair up in sunridge industrial, is one of my lunch craving spots... Meats are better than most, sauces are average at best. I do have issues with their process - they have a fascination of getting portions weighed out to the gram (even if it takes 5 minutes) and probably due to the lunch rush they preslice then nuke to re-warm... You'll see them slicing as they go, but it's not right off the rotissery to your donair... If they'd get rid of that damn scale and switch to a simple "that looks about right" method, and improve their sauces they'd be a real favorite...

really? i've never been to the edmonton trail location, but i went to the UofC location several years ago, and they were pretty terrible. maybe they just had a bad kitchen setup.

few of my fav places. Eat a Pita on 17th SE. football sized donairs, plenty good and the staff is super nice. Uncle Moes in Trans Canada on 52nd and 16th is good as well. i typically go for the SCUD on most of my visits. DT best place IMO is Pita Basket 5th ave and 6th st.

oh and to way they dont put the meat from the spit to the pita was it needed to be heated to a certain temp first before it went to the pita?

yea, i went there once based on recommendations of people in this or other threads, and thought it totally sucked. i had a chicken schwarma. the chicken was really dry and therefore difficult to eat, and it has absolutely zero spices on it. blech.

i remember reading that at a pita place years ago when the City of Calgary made a rule saying if meat was sitting on the spit it needed to be put in a warmer device before it could be served... let me see if i can find more information on that.

    found it
    http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/fn-an/legisla...air-eng.php#a6

scroll down to section 6.2 serving

    snippet...
Recommendation # 5 (secondary cooking step)

    * Portions sliced from a donair cone should undergo a secondary cooking step designed to achieve a temperature of 71°C (160°F) in the case of beef, lamb, and pork containing products or 74°C (165° F) in the case of chicken containing products. The establishment operator should have a process in place to verify the effectiveness of the secondary cooking step, including the use of a suitable thermometer to ensure that the target temperatures are being reached on a consistent basis.
hence sometimes why at some places they dont serve it directly from the Spit to pita.
