Best donair I had was at the place that invented them in Canada, king donair in Halifax. They're opening up a place in Edmonton, so hopefully it's just as good.
King Donair is awful. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
X2, the stuff you can get here locally is way betterThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
All i know is im pumped anytime im in Cochrane around lunch time, as the Donair on the Run is pretty badass. Though, it was better when it was a hole in the wall, now it feels pretty fancy (for a donair place)
I dunno when I had it in Halifax I thought it was incredible. Middle Eastern Donair and East Coast Donairs are totally different things thoughThis quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
East coast donair isn’t any good imo. It’s like one of those things that has this vaunted history but just doesn’t stand up to anything. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
East Coast donair is usually associated with an awesome trip, and so they are awesome by association. I had one of the greatest party trips of my life in Halifax, and I was in love with the donair while I was there. That same donair eaten from a strip-mall in calgary while I'm having a regular day wouldn't be nearly as good.
Also, yeah, east coast donair is a totally different style than more "authentic" middle eastern styles. My tastes have changed to appreciate the more authentic ethnic styles these days.

There's a new-ish restaurant on Edmonton Trail (across from OEB) that serves Halifax street food (Blowers and Grafton). Their food is fantastic, and on the menu they have the "OG Halifax Donair". I personally haven't tried that one but if it's as good as their other food (e.g. Clams & Chips, Lobster Roll) then it's probably also worth checking out.

Have heard good things about Blowers and Grafton, but have not yet tried it out.

B&G is an amazingly good donair. Its different than the ME ones, but awesome in its own right. The Lobster rolls at B&G are also epic. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I really like the My Donair on Southland and Macleod. Other My Donair locations can be hit and miss. Otherwise Shawarma Knight on 14 street and 16 ave.
East coast donair is just a Jimmy's A&A with spicier meat and no lettuce in my experience. I thought they were good but not great. Though I have a soft spot for Pizza Delight when I'm out on the East coast. I think part of the romance some people have about Halifax Donair is it reminds them of home. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
