Went to Royak Kebab for lunch today. Wow. Had the medium donair.

The meat wasn't as flavorful as I have had elsewhere, but you cant argue with the size. Jeezuz. Couldn't even finish the medium.

Tried Jimmy's the other day. Different than anything I've had before, but damn delicious. Good heat too

I hadn't gone to Jimmy's in YEARS. No particular reason, you know how you do or go somewhere regularly then one day you think "wow I haven't been or done that in awhile". That type of thing.

So, my wife who's not a super adventurous eater had a donair from Cedars or something during a brought in work lunch. She mentioned she liked it and I was reminded I hadn't been to Jimmy's in a long time. It was as excellent as I remember, she's been hooked on it ever since.

For the record I'm a super white dude so take everything I say about "ethnic" food with a grain of salt.

Popped into the Falafel King on Stephen Ave today. This used to be a regular spot for me but it seems to have gone downhill. Had chicken shawarma today, and thought the chicken was bland, and they used far too much sauce so everything was soggy.

May come back and test out the falafel again, but if that disappoints, I'm crossing this place off my list.

Love Jerusalem but i hate how expensive it is. I think last time my wife and i went, 2 large sandwiches, one garlic potatoes, 2 pops was like $34 or something... a bit much for some shawarmas if you ask me.

When i'm at work downtown, Olly Frescos in bow valley is still my go-to.

We used to go to Jimmy's alot but a new one recently opened up across from my office and I think it's way better ( and wayyyy cheaper... imo too cheap. They should definitly charge more). They are my go-to now.

It's called Sharwarma Ave and it's on Edmonton Trial and 2nd street, heading south, right beside Spicy Hut. It's run by one of the nicest and hardest working family you will ever meet. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Thanks for this. I've often wondered how it is whenever we go to Spicy Hut. It's close to me so I will have to check it out some time.

Quite a few donair places have opened around me all of a sudden. Cedar's opened another location, in the London Condo stores, Jerusalem Shwarma by Coop on Macleod, and Beirut on Fairmount Drive.

Beirut is pretty good, haven't tried the others yet.

Beirut street food is THE SHIT

Shawarma is cooked over charcoal.. horizontally... with the fats and juices dripping.... mmmmmmmmm flavour!

The wraps? Made fresh IN HOUSE right there, in front of your face! Owner operated, and you can feel the love in it all. Nothing else compares

    Crap, it's so far away.

Charcoal/wood fire cooked food in Calgary is so rare.

In that price range for sure... but few higher end places are doing it right. The Nash of course... and for yakitori Shokunin cooks over that high end Japanese charcoal that they import... so good
