    Default Mustang Guys... need advice

    Alright so I made a thread a while ago about what kind of project car I should get. See here: http://forums.beyond.ca/st/211311/be...s-project-car/

    now after racing my current car (2008 Lancer) on friday I realize I have never stopped wanting a big V8 RWD, and my dream has always been the 2002/2003 SVT Cobra's

    Now they still sell at close to $30,000 and for a summer car for a 20 year old is a little expensive. Now the 4.6L engine in the SVT and the GT seems the same to me minus the supercharger so I guess getting a GT wouldn't be a bad idea to supercharge after.

    My question is if I was looking to get a V8 Mustang to fix up for around 2X,XXX (for the car, parts are later) what would you get? Convertible is an option too.

    I'd find an LX 5 liter fox body and go to town on it!

    SVT = 4.6L 4V
    GT = 4.6L 2V

    You can't just slap on a supercharger and expect the same HP at the same psi. The GT wasn't made for that power, you'd have to do some engine work as well.

    They're certainly big, but I don't know if they are the BEST I've tasted.

    It's a cleaner body style than the GT of that era and looks much better imo.

    Remember 89coupes 1989 coupe? Beautiful example of a perfect fox body!

    It's getting hard to find one in good condition but I think they're a great platform for building a monster. One of the best bangs for your buck for a good times RWD.

    looks like I will have to do it right and save/wait for the SVT. Thanks!

    Yeah I just never fell in love with the body style, now the 5.0L i do love just not the body for a summer cruising car.

    Looks like I will be waiting for this:

    its totaly up to you, if you are going to spend around 20G's personaly i would go with a camaro ss or T/A. you can get a 2001 style mustang for cheap but making it stand out from all the other ones is going to cost you big. blowers are not cheap plus it is alot more than just buying a bolt on kit. OR you can buy my mustang for way under 20G's and it already blown!

    No I have always wanted the SVT Cobra, I just thought I might be able to get away with the GT and blow it myself and get a 'knockoff' of the Cobra.

    Looks like I will be waiting to buy what I want.

    Go for a turbo instead of a supercharger. Hellion makes a great kit that makes over 400hp on stock block(03 style GT). My friends dad has this kit and it is great.

    The coupe is alot stiffer since you don't have the huge hatch in the back. But really the body style thing is personal preference..

    Anyways the 03/04 Cobra (aka terminator) is an amazing machine. If you can get your hands on one, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

    There is so many aftermarket products available for the mustang the only thing that will limit your goals is your wallet.

    Turbo's are cool and sound great, but S/C is the way to go on a mustang. Usually the lag is so bad on the turbo's that by the time you get spooled up the other car is long gone or when the turbo spools up you get a boost of power and spin the shit out of everything.

    The most you can realistically get out of the GT 2v motor is about 350-375hp MAX. There are a lot of cars in calgary that ran the 400+hp but every one that I know has gotten no more than 1 - 2 years out of them before they blow up.

    There is a '03 GT in Edmonton that is stupid fast (faster than a lot of Cobras) but he too is now running on a built motor b/c his old one grenaded.

    The 5.0L is cheap to build and you can get it into the 12's pretty easily. Twin turbo kits seem to work really well on them as well as superchargers. Parts are cheap and you can build one for 500hp without breaking the bank.

    The Cobra is definately the king especially with the Kenne Bell kit on it.... mmmmmm..... IMO it sounds waaay better than a cheezy turbo blow off valve and for a few grand you up to 650hp (at the tires).

    lag... lag... revlimiter....

    Just keep looking.... or bring one from the US....

    Lots of $20k SVT's down there with upgrades like Whipple etc...

    Hell, you just missed one here that sold for low $20's, had the whipple, solid axle conversion, and a pile of other work... monstrous power etc... nice shape....

    Oh.... just so there is NO confusion....

    Ford stopped making real Mustangs in 1995 when they dropped the 5.0 in favour of that boat anchor 4.6....

    ...when the Mustang went from "Bang for the buck street KING" to overweight, overpriced turd that gets beat by 4 bangers....

    Carry on.
