Why did you bid so high then? Did you check www.biddingfortravel.com like I told you to? Prices vary depending on season too.

Just so you know, the hotel rooms are very small. I thought my room at the Belvedere was small, until I stayed at Hotel Mela and it was even smaller lol

Yeah I'm so use to the rooms being so big and roomy like in Calgary/Vancouver. Then when I arrived in NYC and checked out that "studio" from Craigslist...first thing that came to mind was that this guy's studio was the size of our bedroom back in Calgary.

With so little space in NYC, this is all they can do unless you have $3-4 million to spare to buy your own apartment. Not everyone in NYC is like Mayor Bloomberg I guess.

When my family went this summer we stayed at the Soho Grand hotel... it was close to most things and really nice... not sure about the price or anything, my parents did all the booking... but something to look at.

Hotwire.com is showing a couple of 4 star hotels.

One is Midtown East for $121 per night and the other is Midtown Central for $141 per night.

Is there something sketchy going on here where I book and I end up in a 2 star or 3 star hotel that hotwire claims is a 4 star?

The prices seem a bit on the lowside for NY, unless the economy is really that bad down there..........

Going to NYC Dec 26 - Jan 4 never been. Going to stay at either the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Midtown East or Renaissance New York Hotel 57.

Going off of the following descriptions of the hotels which place would be a better location to stay at? Price wise they're the same at $197.

    Courtyard:
Business travelers will find that we have free wired and wireless high-speed internet access in each room. The cross streets of this New York Manhattan hotel are 52nd and 53rd streets on Third Avenue. Convenient airport services to LGA, JFK, & Newark

Renaissance New York Hotel 57 is located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan's East Side at the intersection of 57th and Lexington Avenue.

We're young 23 years old so we like a good party, is it hard to get into clubs? Music preference would be HipHop.

edit: We changed our hotel to the Mansfield

i am going newyork for a week in oct. I am on a budget so i need opinions on hotels.

Manhattan hotels are expensive(2* is $150 on priceline). i was thinking to book rooms at Lga(3* for $75) then take subway to go manhattan.

    What do you guys think?

It's doable but would take approx 1hr each way. I mean, you are only going to be sleeping at your hotel, so if you don't mind that 1hr trip to save a hundred bucks a night it may be something to think about.

I used Priceline to get a 4* in Manhattan in July of 09 for $109/night (+taxes and fees). "The Intercontinental Barclay" It took me about 2 weeks to finally get a bid accepted after rebidding different areas star levels and price, but was definitely worth bidding every day.

Personally wouldn't want to do the 1 hour commute everyday one way

Enforcing above comments, not worth the commute.

Although a great hotel, it seems to be grossly out of OP's price range

We're going to NYC from July 1-5, just in time to see the Macy's firework.
Anyone know the best location to see it?

My gf found this link on booking.com:
    The Gotham Hotel
    $195 a night, 780$ for 4 nights.
Might try bidding on priceline around June and see if I can get something better for cheaper.
