My buddy was a bouncer for years in Calgary, nice guy but when provoked....

He said the worst is the drunk guys with their buddies who think they can take you on. He's gotten into a few scuffles and no problems with the cops. Who are the cops going to believe, some drunk ass 18 year old who can barely walk or the sober bouncer. But some places (I hope you're not at Cowboys) have a reputation for being real aggressive.

I have quite a few friends that are bouncers. You shouldn't be hitting anyone or anything but if you grab people you can defiantely put them in choke holds or wrap there arm behind their back to get them out. Cowboys bouncers are only agressive cause they have to be. The worst beatdown I ever saw was at the CrackAlley. Some guy was being thrown out by the bouncers but instead of throwing him out the held him up against the wall inside and threw him shots to the stomach. The guy was trying to get out the door but they wouldn't let him. CRAZY!!!

Avoid the neck unless you know what you're doing. Real easy to crush a windpipe if you get all excited.

I'm sure you'll be shadowing another bouncer - let them lead/call the shots.

The worst beat down I'd ever seen was at Coconut Joes (for you memebers old enough to remember). A big group of Asian thugs (20+) kicked the shit out of all the bouncers, it was nuts! Beer bottles being smashed over heads, 10 on 1 beatings. Right there and then I realized what cowards wannabe thugs are.

I bounced for a while when I was younger. It's pretty easy work for the most part, you stand there looking offical, talking to chicks, occasionally taking favours from girls who want to get in faster.

Anyways, I wouldn't worry too much about starting out. I'm sure they will team you up with someone who is experienced. The main tip I can give to you is to ALWAYS know where your buddies/bouncers are. If the shit starts to hit the fan and you get a couple of guys who are "liquid" tough you can very quickly defuse a situation by getting 5 or 6 other bouncers there to help you out.

Enjoy yourself, I had a lot of fun for the first couple of monthes. After a while it gets tiring watching everyone else having a good time while your sitting on a stool looking tough.

Good Luck and don't be a hero...

I remember last summer i saw a beat down at outlawz in the parking lot. All the bouncers were out there throwin punches and kicks. The punks were spraying mace at the bouncers and people were being beaten on the hoods of cars and stuff. Pretty crazy

haha yeah im at cowboys... the first thing he said to me is the second i get really aggressive i get canned... he said they have that reputation because in some instinces they have to be tough... but for the most part if people generally cooperate things are pretty simple...

the only thing im worried about is getting ganged up on... the last thing i need is to be beat down by a bunch of punks who think they're tough...

My friend's uncle was one of the bouncers at CJs at that time.. last I heard, he's living under a different name and no one knows exactly where he is. Apparently someone found out where he lived and raided his place during the time of the incident.

    Hey man,

I bounced for a couple years at Mingles, when it was happening! Anyway, you gotta play it cool. If you have to haul someone out, ask him to go to the door where you can talk to him. Otherwise you try hauling a guy through a crowd, your more liable to start a brawl!! Worst case, if your taking someone out and they really don't want to go, you should always have a minimum 2 guys there or more! Depending on the situation! The more the guys you have with you the less chance of a problem.. Always, always have another doorman in eye contact with at the very least!! Main thing is to play it cool!!! give people a second chance, and the third time you have a problem with them, then you ask them to the door. This way you have built up a bit of communication with them. The first couple of tosses, let the experienced guys do the work and work the crowd control for them, such as making room for them to get to the door!

It goes both ways. If the bouncers treat the people with respect, there is no need to come back to get revenge. If you respect the person, ask him to leave, and escort him without being an asshole, he will most likely call it a night and leave.

I've seen many brawls with bouncers because of the way they treat the people. Once a guy got thrown out of Metro, and came back with his friends. It looked like Christmas with all of the red beer bottles smashed on the bouncers heads. They even had to close the place because of it. Play it cool and it's a pretty sweet job.

i used to work as a bouncer at Heavens..

Remember that your #1 concern is your own safety. It's just a job and it's not worth it to get seriously injured trying to break up a fight.

Make sure the other bouncers can see you and know where you are in case something happens.

Try to keep your back towards the wall so no one can come up from behind you.

If there's trouble, get atleast one other bouncer to come with you, don't go alone.

When you tell someone to do something, be stern. Let them know you mean it. If they don't listen the first time, kick them out.

Be aware of everything around you. Don't get smoked in the head by a flying bottle.

When you see little wankstas, keep an eye on them so you can stop anything before it gets out of hand.

If you see a 1v1, let them beat the shit outta each other first. Keep everyone else back and when they're tired, it's your turn to kick some ass haha.
