Default License plate stolen... switched to a texas plate

So i heard that people steal license plates from a car similar to the one they stole.. but I thought it was just strange today.
I take my dog for a walk and when I get back to my vehicle there is a texas plate on it. I mean obviously I'm going to notice it immediately.
I don't get why they would steal mine.. It was reported stolen within like 12 hours.

If they replaced it with an alberta plate I wouldn't have even noticed for awhile. Oh well. Any Ideas?

why would they even bother putting the plate on? I was actually paranoid turning it in to the cops thinking it was involved in a robbery or something lol

Turn it into the cops, it will look worse if you just leave it on your car.

I was kinda thinking of leaving a plate of baklava, might coax the thieves into returning your plate.
