Default 94 Integra Temp and Idle problem

Hey guys! I have a friend that is in need of some help. He jus bought the teg wit 184 xxxkms, and we're running into some minor problems.

    1. sometimes on start up, the idle is irratic, bouncin like its kind of retarded ( from 2500 then drops etc. )for a little while then goes
calm after its warmed up a bit.

    2. when the car is warm, the temperature gauge is on the proper area of the gauge ( just under half ). this is at idle. When the car starts driving the temperature starts to go straight down to where as if the car was just turned on ( on the cold side )

    3. The car isn't getting much mileage, close to 400 kms to a tank. Car doens't burn or leak anything, plugs look good, engine bay is very clean, air filter was horrid, already changed.

What could these problems be and.. for the MPG, what can we replace to get some better mileage ( this is normal driving, barely driven hard )

    Thanks in advance!!

    2. If the temp goes down only while driving, I would suggest looking at the condition of the thermostat.

Had that problem with a prelude, changed the spark plugs and made sure they were in the right order. If the firing order is messed that could also be your problem.

    Hope that helps.

If the firing order was incorrect, then it would have that issue throughout the driving would it not? I am planning on doing a whole tune up, but I will check it for sure. Any other ideas?? Spark plugs seem fine to me, no irregular wear on them. I'll be checking the T-stat soon if you think thats the problem

I thought the temp gauge could be a temperature sensor malfunctioning, but rarely those go out on ya.. so I doubt that would be the issue.

Alright guys.. been a while.. I have done the T-stat and Coolant flush.. heres the update:

Temperature needle is running well now. but it still has the retarded idle in the initial start.

    Any other suggestions?

Really sounds like an IACV issue man...

Unplug it on the back on the manifold and see if that makes a change, I would recommend taking it off and cleaning it.

If unplugging it doesn't make things worse idlewise I would look at getting a replacement one.

Also make sure to flush your coolant properly and use the bleed bolt right next to the t stat housing to get out all air bubbles as that can affect idle.

    Any codes?

T stat was an easy fix, the other problem might take a while. I've seen that happen from a bad trottle position sensor, and bad ignition coils.
    Is it throwing any codes?

a bad tps will throw a code and usually make the car idle very low for a few seconds when it is started.

I have found that usually the bouncy idle comes from the iacv

My TPS is causing this problem. it starts up very rough, idles fine, then it will search, then idle fine and back again to searching... though im throwing a code, so depending i would look at a new TPS. hit up Ebay though, honda wants $1400 for it.

wow.. I thought it might be the TPS or even the IACV actin up... hmm.. i may have to hunt down another. there are a few tegs in the junkie.. might try that out!

Any other input would be good! thanks!
